Rode Mission Space "Lite" today

Mission Space has four bays in which to ride. Each bay has 10 capsules of 4 guests each. I was told that two of the bays are now set up for the new version so that's 80 guests that can ride the new version at one time while 80 can do the spin version in the other two bays.

Cannot tell you about the future of the Single Line at MS. Can only say that was the entrance I was directed to at the soft opening.

DD will be 5 y.o. on our upcoming trip and will meet the height requirement for the "wilder" version, but I think, at least till she's a bit older, we'll take her on the "milder" version if she wants to ride! ;)

My mum, who suffers from motion sickness, may even ride this trip, too! :thumbsup2

This is great news for families that want to ride together, now they can enjoy the ride together as a family. DW won't go near MS, and now we can ride together. What I'll need to do is take the ride first to check it out for her, then both of us ride together. I'll still do the regular version, the spinning doesn't bother me, and I got to ride MS one afternoon 4 times .

I am so glad to hear this. Count my family among those who would never ride M:S before who will consider it now. Thank you, WDW! :thumbsup2

I'm also wondering if there will be a new hight requirment for the milder version. My son probably won't quite reach the 44 inch mark when we go in December but he's really wanting to ride this ride. It'd be great if they would let people a bit shorter ride the mild version as well. I'm thinking if he can ride Star Tours he could ride the mild Mission:Space

It looks like the response to the "choose your own adventure" attraction is very positive. If it works here, shouldn't we expect it to show up in future imagineering?
I could see customizable effects for a wide variety of thrill rides that would enable Disney to build an experience that could appeal to teens, families, and everything in between.
Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I think the entire Mission Space episode :) is another Disney happy accident.

We just returned home today from our trip and learned of this. We rode Mission Space 4 times while we were there and we're very happy that they give you the choice instead of taming the entire ride. My DW and I love the extreme version and would hate to see it go away. Now I we would actually like a more extreme version like it was when the ride first opened....call it "Lite, Medium and Extreme".....we are thrill seekers.

Just glad they at least gave everyone a choice instead of killing the entire thing for those of us who enjoy the extreme version. I actually told my DW today that they should offer a choice of wild and mild for those who can't take the spin. Personally, I closed my eyes and looked around once while riding and STILL got no sensation of spin or disorientation....I guess everyone is wired a bit different, while it bothers some and not others.
i agree- i love the extreme version and am glad they kept it. I also understand the need for a secondary solution due to the bad press and low interest/attendance on the ride. I hope this gives it new life.

I also did not feel the spinning at all. In fact, the first time I rode it, I didn't know how the ride worked (didn't pay attention to the video! lol)---and didn't realize they were spinning me at all. I couldn't feel it for the life of me and still don't. I feel the g-forces with my face being pulled back, but didn't actually feel the 'spinning' motion per say. just varies person to person I guess. but glad now all can enjoy it on some level.

I'm so excited to hear this is reality. DS and I get motion sick, and DH and other DS were afraid they might not like the spinning. But now we can ride it too.

So with the 'lite' version, do you still feel your face being pushed back? Is there a chance of them screwing up and putting you on the spinning version, or forgetting to flip a switch or anything? That makes me really nervous...where's the proof you'll be getting the 'lite' ride? Cast members are human and make mistakes, too! If an entire SECTION of the ride was ONLY programmed for 'lite' I'd feel better. But if it's just a matter of switching spinning on or off for each guest, I won't chance it.

There is a whole section dedicated to the "lite" ride, so not much to worry about that. And, the only thing your face feels is the same sensation as if you were laying on your back (or something similar), there are no "G's" .

Hope that helps!

I also am interested in knowing what the height requirement is for the "lite" version of MS...Please post when someone finds out.. :)

While I don't have a definitive answer, someone on another website posted a photo of the new sign. The new sign, which refers to both the Orange Team and Green Team versions, says at the bottom that "Persons who do not meet the minimum height requirement may not ride". Next to this statement is an icon indicating a minimum height of 44". So it sure looks like that's still the minimum for everyone.

It also says expectant mothers should not ride either version.

Hey, maybe they can take M:S in the OTHER direction: have one centerfuge that spins twice as fast as the original, so those of us who weren't bothered by the standard version can experience the nausea, head-aches and disorientation the rest of you enjoyed! :thumbsup2

Hey good idea!!!!!!

Maybe they could just let you download the MS movie onto your cel phone, so you can watch it on the bus ride back and get the same experience as the lite version.

The restrains are the same in the normal version and the diet version. The heigth limit applies to both versions.

While I am glad the spinning is not included with the milder ride, I am still afraid to ride it because I am claustrophobic. I assume that you still feel very closed in during the ride?

That's too funny!! This is my kind of ride. Get too sick on things that spin!
My DH and DD said they liked MS the way it was and didn't feel anything. I waited for them and when they got off, it was like "no big deal".

That's what I thought it would be like until I rode it. It's really pretty good.
