Rock n Roller Coaster Rehab

DID YOU SAY 5 WEEKS! That is not making me very happy as we arrive Sept 28 and we have 11 family members coming and 7 are for the first time! It's bad enough that BTM is down when we are there, but both just borders "what are they thinking" having them down at the same time!

Five weeks was what I was told by Disney - this was when they supposedly talked to maintenance. However depending on who you talk to you are bound to get conflicting information. I am still hoping that this was scheduled but is delayed in some regard. I just cannot believe they would spring this upon everyone suddenly.
I called again today and got through to coaster maintenance and the lady I talked to thought it may be pushed back but she was not quite sure. I asked for a call back once she confirms or denies with her boss.
This has been very frustrating - we are down 9/22-9/30 so it certainly affects us as well. Keep you fingers crossed.

We'll be there 9/6-9/11, with 14 total, 8 of which have never been and were looking forward to it. I just can't believe they would do this while the free dining is going on. I've heard from hotel and dining reservations that it's going to be very crowded! And, so much for EMH while RNR is down, that will make for a short night.

I work at RNR. When that happens, it's because a disabled person is loading into the third row of the vehicle at unload. Launches are automatically inhibited until the guests are completely secure. This has unfortunately taken like... 8 min to do, depending on how slow they are. Spotty audio occurs due to the launched car being away from a station for too long, and is hard to do anything about. Remember, vehicles are charged at unload and load; do not have their own power sources, and begin discharging immediately after leaving the charger.

But right before the Refurb in September, they are upgrading audio to another system, which should be tested this week sometime on vehicle number 3. The refurb is going to be on electrical and launch base control systems, and is 100% needed and planned for at least a year. The Jan refurb was the addition of the single rider line and replacement of magnets along the LSM.

Hope that answers your questions.

Thanks for the info.

On this particular day, the delay was happening with nearly every car, and there had been reports for several days that this was happening. While I don't doubt that under normal operating conditions the delay can be caused by what you describe, there were clearly other things going on.

With the audio, it was cutting out on subesequent days as well, when the delay at the launch was not happening, so again, there was something else going on.

Perhaps that was all temporary, but it doesn't surprise me that a refurb is scheduled.

It is on the official site now.

Disney's website has Haunted Mansion closed Aug.16-Sept.12 and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Sept.4-Oct.4. I love it. DH is afraid of heights and likes to keep his feet on the ground(does not like loops). He wanted to do the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster in March, but a hour wait. He is disappointed since it will be closed this time. Maybe next time.

that was the january rehab. This one is a major overhaul. it's going to be gutted and redone. Allen-Bradley no longer is contracted for electrical with disney. Siemens will be reworking the electrical/OCCs.

 Okay so the ques were changed & some magnets fixed 9 mos ago. Now a complete overhaul? I am going to be in MGM on October 2nd. Any luck & extra pixie dust that this will be done a bit faster than the October 4th date? I will totally be  if I cannot ride RnR w/ DH! We absolutely think RnR is the best.
Coupled with the fact my DS5 thinks he's going to ride the "fast train" BTMR. He won't since it closes 10/1 (we go to MK on 10/2) I haven't had the heart to even try & tell him. Story of my life, finally get the hubby to go on another WDW trip & 2 biggies are closed!

There's  spot in my heart about the whole thing! Who plans these things anyway? Where can I send a strongly worded email?

Thanks so much for the explanation. You're the first person on here to actually explain why the rehab is taking place. I'm going to be at WDW from Sept 17 to 27. Any chance the RNR rehab will be finished early?? RNR is my favourite ride and I can't believe I'm going to have to miss it during my trip. Thanks

Who are you calling at Disney about this? I would love to call too unless our above poster RnR coaster CM can give us some add'l info. I might even kindly discuss BTMR refurb work too :sad2:

The day we heard about the RNR rehab was indeed a very sad day! It is the favorite ride of DS9 and DH.

Our Sept 22-29 trip was planned well over 6 months ago, and at that time there were no rehabs scheduled. Obviously I understand the need for emergency or urgent repairs. But perhaps they could do a better job of scheduling and communicating "major refurbs" or "routine maintenance" much further in advance. Such notifications may actually have an impact for many people when choosing their dates for an upcoming visit to WDW. Since I would guess that most people are booking their trips from 6-12 months in advance, a one-month notice that a major ride is going down is too little, too late.

Amen! We booked our September Grand Gathering earlier this year & now this!RNR is our fav ride & we were very disappointed. My youngest DD is just tall enough to ride this year & she was really looking forward to it. MY DH was so upset he called Disney to file a complaint ( if we had known we could have booked diifferent dates) As luck would have it it's reopening the week after we're going to be there. Oh well:sad2: Just needed to vent!
I'm hoping Everest will help take the sting out of it. I'm sure we will have a fantastic time & maybe with a little luck & pixie dust they'll finish a little early. Keepin' my fingers crossed & countin' down the days!:tinker:

Hey pp who do you call to file a complaint? Just the 1-800 WDW disney#? Maybe if they see how upset / saddened people are about the referb during a busy time, they may do a better job in the future scheduling those referbs. Hopefully they'll see that there should be better coordination between the parks about which biggies they have down @ 1 time.

I am still hoping our above posting RNR CM will give us some sort of update about an early opening. pixiedust:

He called the 1-800 number but after a few transfers I'm not exactly sure who he ended up talking to. Maybe someone in Customer Service or Guest Relations or something like that. We also all sent e-mails through the "contact us" on the disney web site. Didn't do much good but at least they know how we feel about it.

I can't get no sa-tis-fac-tion:rockband:

I'm frustrated that they keep changing the dates of the rehab. At first it was scheduled to be back open on 10/2, then end of September (which would have been fantastic!), and now I just read it's changed back and won't be open until 10/4! :sad2: Man! that stinks! I was hoping to get to ride it before we left to come home on 10/2. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they will finish up early and I can get in one ride before jumping on the plane to come home!!!
