Rock 'n' Roll races

Oh boy, I had an experience with some of those immature volunteers when I did the race the last year it was the Distance Classic.....I'm at the back of the pack and I guess by time I got to the water stop the kids were bored. They were actually milling around and we had to pick our way through them. After I grabbed a cup of water from a young man I got drenched - yep, the guy had poked a hole in the bottom of the cup and when I took it from him I got wet. At least it was water and not powerade!

I've never had a bad experience though with RnR and I've done quite a few. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Providence and St Louis!

OK, these were my issues with Philly RnR, in a nutshell.

- lots of unshaded areas. I was wearing a Dri-Fit hat, and I was still uncomfortable after about two miles running completely exposed. There is not a lot of shade on this course. I got unlucky with a hot, sunny day, but the layout of the course made it worse.

- FLAT as a pancake. This might not be an issue for some people, but because I train in NYC, which has some serious hills, I didn't have the right muscles for a flat half marathon.

Well, I knew heat was potentially an issue when we signed up. I live in Baltimore, and I know it can still be awfully hot and miserable in September. So I'll just have to hope for good weather!

As far as being flat--I think that's why my SIL picked it! With it being her first, she didn't want hills.
