We lost a great legend. What a great talented actor, director, visionary who created the Sundance Film Festival for independent actors, directors, producers, and an activist who cared about our planet long before it was a "thing."

R.I.P. Mr. Redford. You will be missed. :sad1:

Man, people talk about "The Greats" - he was truly one of them, not just on screen but off screen as well. He will leave a lasting impact. RIP, sir.

He truly was one of the greats and he will be missed. RIP Mr. Redford, thanks for all the memories.

I was sad to hear this, although at his age I realized it would occur sooner rather than later. One of my favorite films is Out of Africa. I think I will watch it today in his honor. RIP Mr. Redford and thank you for the memories.

Everyone talks about Ordinary People, which is superlative, but The Horse Whisperer is a vastly underrated film. It's epic and personal both at the same time. And that Thomas Newman score is sumptuous.

I bet Brad Pitt has to thank Mr. Redford in more ways than one. Not only did he get to star in A River Runs Through it, (one of my favorite movies Redford directed.) But, I bet Redford made Brad dig deeper and not just rely on his good looks for roles. After coming to all our attention in Thelma & Louise, Brad could have just skated by in sexy roles and flamed out after a couple years. But, I suspect Redford challenged him to risk take and demand more of himself and of the roles he has been willing to accept.

Which is what Redford went through himself in his own acting career. Hollywood wanted him to do light, fluffy, good-looking roles. Redford wanted to be gritty and dirty and tough in Jeremiah Johnson, and be Bob Woodward in All the President's Men. (Two movies already mentioned. :thumbsup2 )

His Bob Woodward role was mentioned this morning by the critic...as Redford could do phone conversations unlike any other actor

Redford... Brad Pitt... Benjamin button... now there is an algebra equation

Redford was also a strong supporter of Native American film and television projects, including being a producer on the current series "Dark Winds." He also allowed the filming of a Native-produced film called "Christmas in the Clouds" at the Sundance Resort--the only movie besides his own "Jeremiah Johnson" that's ever filmed there. (I was just thinking about that movie a couple of weeks ago when Graham Greene died, because he had a very funny role in the film.)

That's cool...he isn't credited to be in the film ..we have outlaw on for noise...so will have to pay attention..he was also in running brave and I don't remember his role... but since wolves been looking for him... unfortunately he plays a villain on outlaw channel.... so upset to watch

You took out parts of my posting so I can't tell which movie you're referring to that "he isn't credited to be in." Redford played the title character in in "Jeremiah Johnson." As I noted, he allowed the filming of "Christmas in the Clouds" at Sundance. I did not say he was in that movie, because he wasn't.

Inside edition ends segment with Redford rounding third base...he was a natural ... and his famous quote...." I can't swim
