RnR!!!

Did anyone else feel like they lost their breath at the beginning? I'm such a wimp but I rode this last Fall (after my DH rode it and told me it was not scary at all) anyway my son (age 8) and I rode it and when we took off, I felt like I couldn't catch my breath for several seconds!!!!! After that part, I had fun and wasnt scared. My family wants me to ride it again this Fall but I wanted to see if I was the only one freaking!!!! I have not rode ToT, do you think this is scarier? Thanks.

Yes, I always have to hold my breath or take short, fast breaths at the beginning of this ride. But, I love it. I have ridden RnR more times than I can count, and never tire of it. TOT is a different ride, so it's hard to compare. It's more of a "lose your stomach" kind of feeling. You don't lose your breath like RnR. I love both, but I am a thrill ride lover, so don't base you decision on whether to ride on my opinion. At least you should enjoy the queue at TOT, and, if you get there and decide you don't want to ride, you can take the chicken exit. The theming is marvelous.

I love the beginning of RNR! I have not been short of breath though. I love rides, the faster, scarier the better.

I think that TOT is not scary at all. Maybe the first time you do it, it might be a little, but it's really a lot of fun. Definatley give it a try!

RnR is an intense ride and does "take your breath away". However, the first few seats are even more intense. I always wait and get into one of the last cars. That split second gives your brain a chance to catch up with what you see...the first cars don't. I'm not kidding, it really is a nicer ride the further back you sit. Try it.

Thanks for your replies. ncbyrne-thanks for the advice, I will get one of the last seats. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that felt this way (I thought it was just me).

RnR is my absolute favorite, and I drag my poor hubby on it as many times as possible! He goes along with it, but I have strict rules to follow - when we're sitting there, waiting to 'take off,' I can't speak to him, or look at him, as he has to 'concentrate' on breathing! He swears when he doesn't do this, he doesn't breathe for the whole ride!! lol! Poor guy - I shouldn't laugh, but if only you could see that serious look on his face when I steal a peek at him - it's priceless! (Oh, I'm a baaaad, baaaad wife!)

I always request & wait for the front seat. The view is unbelievable & honestly, I find the launch less scary. You are shot into the dark so quickly from the front seat that you really can't tell how fast you're going.

OMGoodness!! I will have to show this thread to my DH, as he has been saying that he couldn't catch his breath either! We were with friends of ours that couldn't wait to go on RNR and I was excited because I finally had some people there to ride it with me! My DH and I have been to MGM 5 times just the 2 of us, and I never went on it because I didn't want to keep DH waiting. I just always skipped it.

This trip, DH didn't want to be "left out" (didn't think peer pressure still happened at 40!) so he went along with us. I LOVED the ride. We sat in the 2nd seat, but I didn't notice the "take your breath away" feeling. I just didn't like the fact that they counted down the time until "take off"! I'd rather not know when I'm going to be launched!!

My poor dh came off breathless and white as a ghost. It took him a couple of hours to recover. Never again will he go on it. I, however, may be making him wait next time....I can't wait to go on it again!

In September of 2001, a week after 9/11, my Brother and Sister-in-law joined us for a trip to WDW. MGM was empty (according to one CM we spoke with there was less than 600 people through the turnstiles before 11:00. My SIL had never been on RnR and knew nothing about it. Well, because there were so few people in line (not even enough to fill one train) she never got to see one launch before we rode. Noboby warned her. I was sitting behind her as we pulled up to the stop light. She was just having a casual conversation with her husband when the countdown hit 1. I don't know if you can describe the scream she let out when that car took off. I don't think she stopped for the whole ride. She was lilly white when we got off, and refused to talk to all of us (we, BTW, were in stiches). That one experience was the funniest thing I have ever seen or heard.

I absolutely lost my breath after the launch - everytime I rode it! Isn't it the most amazing thing???

You lose your breath because of the G forces that the launch generates. The force compresses your chest, thus the lack of air initially. Some people react better to this than others. Anxiety will also heighten this. I usually take a breath right before launch and then relax. I am actually MUCH better in dark coasters than I am in ones that are in the open.

California Screamin in DL is based on RnR only not as cool. It has the "rocket launch" and one large upsidedown loop (around Mickeys head) but no corkscrew. If I have to see how high in the air I am, I freak much faster.

Add me to the list of breathless people. I felt like the air was sucked out of me and even though I kept repeating "breathe, breathe" to myself, I don't think I took a breath until after the first inversion was complete.

My son, age 15, was next to me shouting the whole time
"You ok MOM?" After that initial breathe the ride was fantastic.
