Hello all!! I got such great advice from you all, so who better to get more than you :)

I am having a hard time deciding between FQ or RS....which would you choose! I am really big on a quick food court for breakfast and good pools...any suggestions? I would appreciate any info or personal suggestions!!

Thanks!!

Just back from Mickey's house and planning the next trip....the only way to deal with leaving there!!

We love both...they're the only moderates we'll stay in. Both have good pools, but I prefer the food court at FQ. Just like the theming and food better. When we stay at RS, we only stay in Alligator Bayou. The theming on the Southern mansion side just doesn't do it for me.

Do you prefer the feel of New Orleans or the Deep South? If you like New Orleans, stay at FQ. If you like the Deep South idea, are you into the Southern mansions or the swamp?

hello fellow long islander. i stayed at POR (riverside) last time in october. i loved it. the food court is great (bigger than POFQ, although i think i liked the food court at POFQ more cause it was smaller), lots of dining options, very very pretty grounds. POFQ looked a lot smaller in general, not as spacious by any means. i felt POR was more of a "resort", and its pool was nicer in my opinion. you really cant go wrong either way though.

Stayed at both and both are good choises. We prefer POR AB section. The themeing is great at both but if you have small kids they might prefer FQ due to the pool...smjj

We have stayed at both but are partial to POFQ. We love the pool and food court as well as the theming.

We just got back from 2 nites at POFQ and loved it. It was a quiet, fun resort. Will you have access to a car? I'm not staying at POR until next month. However, ds and his wife stayed at POR in April. They said the walk to their room took at least 15 minutes. After a full day at the park they hated the trek back to their room. From what I've heard POFQ isn't as big so the walk might not be as bad.

On the positive side we loved Scat Cats. Wed-Sat evenings they have a performer until midnight. We loved coming home from the parks & just hanging out, listening to live music. The entertainer sang & played saxophone, steel drums etc. It was a nice, relaxing way to end our day.

On the negative side we had some issues with mousekeeping. We checked in at 3pm after spending some time at Epcot. I couldn't wait to shower & take a 30 minute power nap. Unbelievable, we had NO soap, shampoo etc. We phoned housekeeping - after 45 minutes still NO soap etc. We phoned back and they said their records indicated that they'd sent up the soap. 15 minutes after that call we finally received soap, shampoo etc. Also, in the bathroom next to the tub in the corner was hair & lint. Yeck! Then the next day we did get soap but they never replenished our coffee. We tipped mousekeeping both days we were there but I don't know why. We were disapointed with their services. Forget the animal towels I just want my soap & coffee!

Check in was a breeze - we waited in line for about 5 minutes. For checkout we waited about 10 minutes in line. The front desk staff was helpful and courteous.

The food court seemed fine to me. I loved their quesadillas.

Have a fun trip!

In addition to the above, one of the nicest things about POFQ was that the buses to the parks stopped at POFQ first for pick-up before going to POR. Many times the buses were already SRO by the time the bus stopped at POR and there are 4 bus stops at POR. Ugh.

....:duck: flame me, but, JMHO, yukkee-poo to BOTH! I didn't care for EITHER one, but if I HAD to choose, I'd pick Riverside - nicer setting and MUCH better food court! (although I DID love the background music they played in the lobby! :teeth: )

One other piece of advice: If you have a lot of toiletries, don't request AB ~ there is only a long, narrow shelf above the sink to put your 'stuff' on...not really enough room!

I haven't stayed at POFQ, only POR and we all loved it from my 7 yr old DD to my 65 yr old Dad. The kids originally liked the look of the POFQ pool, but I think they had more fun in the POR pool, mainly because one of the lifeguards led the kids in games one afternoon there. I'm partial to POR but I'm sure both resorts are (almost ;)) equally wonderful. Which ever you may choose, try to make it over to the table service restaurant at POR for breakfast...it's incredibly yummy, dinner there was just ok. Also another "don't miss" thing at POR is Bob Jackson the Piano Man, he puts on a great show for the whole family! Enjoy whatever you choose!

I definitely prefer FQ over Riverside. I like it because it's smaller, so you'll have shorter walks to get to the food courts, bus, etc. My boys love the pool slide... and the themeing is very nice. :) It's my favorite moderate resort. :teeth:

I agree with TigrLvsPooh. I've stayed at both and much prefer POFQ over POR. Mostly because of the proximity to everything at POFQ. The rooms are beautiful and the resort grounds just seem cleaner to me. I'm sure that's part of the themeing at POR (Alligator Bayou section), but I didn't like it. Plus, the foodcourts have much of the same staples. AND....the pool slide is better at POFQ.

These are just my opinions, though.

POFQ -- for me . Stayed there last August & through Hurricane Frances :earsboy:

Biggest plus -- shortest walk back to your rooms. Everything is close by and easy to get too. Longest walk to food court is about 3 mins.

Thanks so much for all the info!! I will pass it on to my SIL....she will be so happy to hear all this wonderful info. We are going with my 2 year old DN so the info about the kids stuff really helps! Thanks again!

Only 5 months till my next trip!! ::MickeyMo

If you stay at POR can you use POFQ Pools? If so, how far of a walk would this be? Does anyone know if POFQ is the only moderate pool with a water slide? Any opinions on best pools for kids in moderates?

Last fall we stayed at POFQ, we LOVED it, but I like to try different resorts, so we are going to PORS this fall and praying for a room up close.

I liked FQ and stayed there twice. This time we stayed at RS AB for the trundle bed. My kids loved it there because of the ducks, rabbits, and squirrels everywhere. They fed the ducks outside our room every morning. We also had a room pretty close to the food court and bus depot so that was okay. I did like the smaller setting at FQ. The kids liked both pools but liked the theming of the FQ pool better.

HI! Forgot to hit the "quote" button, but...

Yes, POR and POFQ guests may use each other's pools, free mug refills, etc. We liked POFQ so much that we'll probably return there again someday when DH agrees to it! The girls (9 and 11) did like POR pool better, but younger kids seemed to prefer POFQ's slide. POFQ is so much smaller and everything is fairly close by. The walk to POR is about 10 minutes and the boat ride is about 5 minutes. There are bunnies and ducks all over POFQ and we really enjoyed walking right up to them. We stayed in building 6 on the river side and LOVED it!!! And don't forget that POFQ always gets picked up/dropped off first on the buses! :flower:

POFQ-easier to get around.

PORS- much larger and can be far from everything

POFQ for me

don't let the choice in pools be your deciding factor, because you can go to either pool. it is about a 15 min walk though. or a 5 min boat ride from the ferry. it makes a stop directly in front of the pofq pool. both of them have slides. i can't remember if all of the moderates have a slide. i know that coronado does, can't remember if caribbean does.

pofq has a mari gras "dragon" for the slide.

por has a slide that starts from the top of a fort type design. it has buckets that poor water out around the pool, as part of the decor...

we really like por, as you can see from my sig. it's themeing is more relaxing. as far as your distance from the food court goes, you can always request for a building like 14, 18, which are in the aligator bayou section, or in 90, which is in the mansions section. riverside also has many rabbits and ducks around the resort, actually near the food court there is an area where you can purchase food for them out of one of those dispensers.

good luck

My husband and I have stayed once and POR and once at POFQ. I've stayed multiple times at POR with my family before getting married, that was back in the day it was still called Dixie Landings! This past December was our first visit to POFQ and we adored it! We were just at dinner with my family last night and we were talking about our next trip to Disney (we're staying at Pop) but we decided our favorite resort ever was POFQ. We loved the closeness of it all, the themeing, the food court, the pool area was fantastic and the bus stop was never more than a minute away. I would suggest POFQ over POR any day. I hope you enjoy your trip, wherever you stay...either choice is fantastic and you'll have a blast no matter where you lay your head to sleep! :wizard:
