River Country/discovery island & treasure island?

My sister and I were just discussing this because she had found an article about an abandoned Wizard of Oz land and some different abandoned Weird NJ stuff.

My boyfriend and I were just there in May and we took a trip over to see River Country at Fort Wilderness. It was creepy just being in that part of FW and it's not even blocked off. There's a fence up but people picked away at it and you can see through. The restrooms that were open were even creepy! We got some great pictures though. A few even looked like there wasn't a fence. It was pretty cool.

My uncle wanted us to go at night to tell him if it was true that they still play the music and leave the lights on like he's heard. I don't know if I could handle it at night! I was just freaked out in the middle of the day!:scared1:

I subscribe to two old threads here on the boards. One is called Abandoned Attractions & the other is River Country. They have oodles of good stuff including pictures. Would love to post the links but I have not posted enough reply's to have that privilege....:confused3

If you would like the links just private message me.

Not sure I could handle that either, creepy!

The restrooms and the area where they still play the music and leave the lights on is in an area that's still open to the public and is used used for Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Nothing to be creeped out about.

And even you go into the closed part you are of course still going to hear the music since its just on the other side of the fence.

I think what creeps people out is that they didn't demolish anything after they left. There really isn't a reason too until you know what you are planning to build there.

There was a huge thread in the camping section a few years back outlining a large DVC property planned for that area. I guess they figured Poly DVC would be easier to do.

Thanks, charlte! So they do play the River Country music? I knew that it was near Mickey's Backyard BBQ so I was curious if maybe the music came from there and reports had been skewed. What I think is weird is that they'd even think to play music back there with it closed. I also have read about the DVC rumors. I wonder if talks would resurface even with the Poly, especially if the Bungalows do well. I could see some type of fancy cabins like that. The whole thing that got me was that structures were still up and you could see different odds and ends scattered through different parts of the area.
