Rise of the Resistance to utilize normal queue starting Sept 23.

I'm hoping it means they're about to announce some extra hours for HS - the Virtual queue throws things off there.

Also, with them electing to use the VQ on a "selective basis" I'm assuming people will need to always check the app at 7AM just in case it's there?

I doubt Disney would be smart enough to have a push notification go out to anyone who has the app downloaded saying "Join the RoTR VQ today at X time"

I’m wondering what time they close the queue for the day and also how they are going to handle DAS with this… I could see abuse being rampant.

I wonder if we'll see a return of the 5am rope drop crowds.

Can someone explain how rope drop works for those of us who haven’t done it? If a park opens at 8, and early entry starts at 7:30, what would be the point of getting there at 5? Do the lines leading to the entrance/security begin that early? Are cast members on site to assist? Or do people get there at 5 and crowd wherever they fit enmasse until 7:30 where It’s then a mad squeeze though security?

I haven't done rope drop since the times of paper fastpasses. (Edited to add that once they switched to Fastpass + reservaitions, we always did afternoon/evening fastpass times.)
Back then, yes, you'd get in line outside the park super early so you could "run" to get a fastpass for the most popular rides. It was called "running of the bulls." It was horrible. Back then, you'd wait for your group to get through the turnstile, then one member of the party would be the "runner." (I was always the runner.) NOW it looks like EVERYONE will have to run together with their group. That's gonna be great....

5 AM is a pretty extreme case, but happened when big, new attractions/lands opened. Generally, you want to be there about an hour before park open, maybe a littler more in the case of Rise. You will wait outside until they start putting people through. Generally they will start letting folks in a bit early and then holding you at the "ropes" which may or may not be actual ropes. At HS, they will have a gathering area for SWGE/Rise and for other areas. At time, you will then be walked to the attraction and you will fill in the queue. This may or may not happen before the published entry time, but it should be close-ish. So you do end up waiting, but you aren't using up valuable park time.

Also, to add, if you are not in the fornt of the pack filing into the ride queue, it may become a very long wait very fast!

This is really going to affect mine (and probably everyone's) rope drop strategy. The "problem" with Hollywood Studios is that there are a LOT of big e-ticket attractions. So at rope drop do you head to RotR, SR, MMRR, SDD, RRC, or ToT? There are a lot of big decisions to make. I'll be interesting to see what everyone does and what does or doesn't work once this starts happening, and once Genie+ starts. Sorry to those with late September or early October trips! Like someone said above, you are our guinea pigs!

I also wonder if this means Remy will still have a virtual queue? I'm assuming yes. As of recently Disneyland and CA Adventure each had virtual queues for RotR and Spider-Man, so the system can handle two virtual queue sign ups at the same time. I anticipate Remy to be popular, like any new attraction, but I don't see it being bigger than RotR for multiple reasons.

Welcome to "yield management". Executive bean counter ran the numbers and thinks they will make more IA$$ money if a big-*** long line is in your face... so, poof.

Or maybe IT said "you want to do what at 7am?" and something had to give way (for now)

Disney was really pushing that you'd have two ways to ride ROTR: VQ or LL. Now they're going back on what they said. I know VQ was not popular, but seriously - waiting in an 8 hour standby? (Because yes, I think it could get that long. Does everyone forget the 5-6 hour standby lines for FoP?)

Well, FoP is a different case. The 5 hour standby waits were during the FP era. I don't think FoP has had 5 hour waits during the post-covid standby only era.

With FP, you need fewer people willing to wait 5 hours to sustain a 5 hour wait since so much capacity goes to FP instead of standby. With Standby only, you would need 5-8 times as many people willing to wait 5 hours to get to a 5 hour wait, which doesn't really happen. With IAS, we are in new territory, but no, I don't think Rise will sustain 5 hour waits. I don't see IAS selling passes to the same level as FP distributed them.

When Rise first opened, it would absolutely have had 8+ hour standby waits. But now... I don't think the demand will warrant that. But it will be exciting to see what happens!

I prefer this. The thought of doing the VQ gave me anxiety.
The virtual queue was terrible!

You had to have the fastest fingers, fastest technology, and fastest Internet connection to get a BG. The system heavily favored local annual passholders who could try day after day, knowing exactly where they got the fast connection.

That's no way to run an attraction like ROTR.

At least with a Standby line, those who really want to do it are going to wait for it.

Those who have already ridden ROTR 50 or more times are going to ask themselves, "Do I really want to ride a 51st time?"
