Rise of the Resistance BOARDING GROUPS Superthread Part 2 *No Ride Spoilers Please* *PLEASE READ POSTS 1-3*

So I was back to work today for the first time in 15 months and used my phone’s cellular connection to practice. Failed at both 7am and 12pm. That has never happened to me before using my home wifi. Now I am worried for my trip if I have to use my cell data. I will have my husband trying at home since he’s not coming, and it looks like I’ll have to rely on him.
So I ran speedtest.com with my wifi and my cell data at home. At home my wifi is over 100Mbps with a ping of 7ms. My cell varies from mid 20s to upper 40s Mbps with a much higher ping- currently 37ms. Definitely going to make sure my husband is trying at home every time I want a BG. No wonder I failed trying with my cell data.

Re: atomic clocks… it’s going to be just me, solo, trying for BGs in two weeks. I just checked on my Fitbit watch and the time isn’t exact! What app can I use where I can keep an eye on the atomic clock up in the corner of my phone so as to click right at 6:59:59?
if you have an Iphone then I don’t think you need to use the atomic clock, the phone time works just fine or it did for me this week.

I haven't tried in person yet, but playing around at home, I agree with this. I keep my finger hovering above where "join" will pop up on a refresh and do as soon at it hits 7am. Keeping track of too many things will inevitably end up with me being the second too late. :rotfl:

The amount of data used by the process is literally going to be like 100KB which is around 1/25th of 20Mb. And 30ms is .03 seconds. Those numbers are fine either way.

If you are having bad luck on cellular while around a ton of other folks, it would most likely be caused by contention over the tower signal and back haul bandwidth for the tower.

This is the main reason why when our family was going for ROTR the first month it opened we split three of us on park WiFi (we moved away from the crowd on Main Street to the esplanade where it seemed the connection was way better) and three of us on Verizon WiFi. I don’t think we ended up getting a BG over 20 either time. I think the main secret is timing it so you are starting in the second before the time hits.

Thanks so much for this info! I am going to keep trying to practice on cellular to see if I can be successful.

Tried this morning for practice for WS using atomic clock and not pull-down method, also on data with 5G. Ticker spun just enough to take too long and fill up before I got through. Hope it doesn’t do this when I’m actually trying for real next week 😱
I had same thing happen for my first practice yesterday on WS, but today was able to get through. I started on the DL queue page and clicked the DCA tab right at 7 and quickly clicked select all and join to get through to the no reservation Page. It did spin a bit so thought I missed. Good news was the afternoon drop seemed slightly easier to get through, at least yesterday, anyway.

We arrived here yesterday around 10:30am and were able to get BG 81 at the noon drop. This morning we got group 13 at the 7am drop. We had 3 adults and a teenager all trying at the same time and the teen was the fastest every time! 😆 We were all using data and the clocks on our phones, with two on older model iPhones and two on android. Yesterday was the first time any of us even stepped first in GE and the Star Wars fans absolutely loved all of it!

So do you think clicking from the DL page to the DCA page is better than pulling down on the DCA page? I’m going to have to try your method at noon and see how it goes for me.

I've never been a fan of pull down to refresh. Imo, the refresh takes too long and unpredictable.

With starting on the DL tab and switching, the blue join was there right at 7, same as how RotR was there right at 7 when clicking the join below the ATAT picture.

Got BG 24 for ROTR this morning. DD16 and I were both trying and she was successful. We had terrible luck for WS yesterday (no go at 7am, backup group that didn’t get called at noon) so beyond happy we got ROTR today and that it should be an early enough number that we will have ridden ROTR by noon and get one more chance at WS.

I have been waiting almost 18 months avoiding as many spoilers as possible to go on ROTR and am a huge SW fan. I am SO EXCITED (even though I know it’s not the full version)!!!!

ETA: LOVED ROTR and then scored WS BG 104 while boarding Peter Pan at noon. LOVED WS too!

When I practice at home I have to select my party before clicking “join.” Is it correct that on the day I have a reservation my party will already be pre-selected and I can just hit join?

that is correct. All linked tickets that have a reservation for that day will automatically be selected so you just hit the join button as fast as possible and don’t take the time to read anything.

At my home I use WIFI. When at the parks or hotels I use Mobile Data.

Failed again using cellular at home when practicing today at 7am. Gonna try again at 12pm. I have a pretty good handle on how it works with my home wifi and have only failed once when it seems like there was a system issue using the wifi. Want to see if I can get better and actually be successful using cell data.

Succeeded with cellular on my 12pm practice! I tried a different method this time. I had time.gov up on my phone until 11:59:50 (to simulate having to do it in park so I won't have another way of telling the time), then quickly switched to the app (didn't close my web browser), counting down 10, 9, 8, etc. At 1, I clicked "Join Boarding Group" from the main app page then selected to join ROTR. It's still definitely slower than wifi but it worked just fine. It seems that on cell data, pressing right when the phone timer turns to 7am/12pm is too late due to the slower speed and it hangs with everyone else who's trying to get a BG as well. Gotta do 59:59. I'll further test my theory tomorrow at the 7am practice.

This may be a dumb question, but when it is just about time to book a boarding group, is there still a direct link to the boarding groups that will show up on the home screen of the app?

I am with you and even though we were successful on 6/4 for WS with the pull down method, next time I'll be going from the DL tab. I've always gone from the home page "join" button for ROTR, and we have a perfect record for rides (I think we've been on it about a dozen times). I didn't think to do it that way on our WS day, and I'm just feeling fortunate it worked out. My sister is heading to DLR next week, and I'm going to tell her to do the tab method.

nothing new shows up. There is a link on the home page for virtual queues but it’s always there.

Just updating from my practice round today. I did try this method and it worked well in getting to the join button. But then it spun & spun waiting to get to select my tickets, so by the time I selected them, it was too late. That would have happened either way, so it’s just luck of the draw on that one I think. Hopefully when I have a valid reservation, it doesn’t take so long to find my tickets. And we have 5 park days - hoping we can get on just once.

ETA: this was for WS, even though this is the RotR thread. I need to practice again for RotR - I had that down but not sure if it’s changed with the WS opening.
