Wow, he was only 53![]()
I'll be 53 in May. But I look a lot better than he did. I guess he led a pretty hard life.

Those guys are up for days on end living on cigarettes and coffee. That's got to take its toll.
RIP
Students shot and killed at The University of Alabama today.![]()
That is the University of Alabama in Huntsville, just a mile or two from where I'm sittin.
Martha (Tent Camping Mom) works or used to work there (they may have moved to Florida already)
What's even sadder is that there are many people with doctorates flipping burgers at fast food joints just to have a job - and this one committed a heinous act because she was not awarded tenure?? She had a job - and a good job at that. What was she thinking?
I'm here and we haven't moved to Florida yet...retirement is still about 5 years away
I'm still at UAH. Yesterday had a very scary situation with a very sad ending. It happened in the building next to me. Our faculty was in a meeting on the 1st floor and I was the only staff left on the 3rd floor of our wing. I got a call about 4:05 from the assistant dean and he said to turn out my lights and take cover because there was a shooter on the campus and he didn't know the details yet. I rushed, I grabbed my cell, locked all the office doors and turned out the lights and found a hidden spot in one of the rooms in our suite. I was scared to death...I could hear my heart pounding! Right as I got settled, my husband called (most of you know he's a cop)...he called and told me the same thing and that he was on his way. He also told me to put my cell on silent...that didn't even cross my mind! It was only a few minutes but it felt like an eternity until he and the faculty showed up in my office. We stayed under lockdown until 5:30. There were no classes in our building on a Friday afternoon so no students were around. But I understand there were some students in the building with the shooter. Please keep them and the faculty in your prayers, I can only imagine what they are going through.
I know the two critically injured and was aquainted with a couple of the fatalities. Please keep the victims and families in your prayers.

How sad. 4 professors (3 dead, one in jail) are now gone. Did the shooter really think she would succeed in obtaining tenure by killing people? Just sad, sad, sad.

I think you're right. And it's already getting ugly. Watching Boston news tonight they brought up that the shooter shot/killed her brother when she lived in MA 20 years ago. They seem to be insinuating that she was never charged because some town officials got involved and they're making it sound like they're considering reopening that case now too.
Wow....just think how effective these tactics would be at lowering the population if everyone who's been laid off since 2007 reacted in the same fashion! But on the bright side, she's guaranteed herself a bunk & 3 squares - at the price of 3 lives.Just saw an interview with a UAH official. Being denied tenure, DOES mean she was being dismissed at the end of the term.
I also read today that she was part of a mail bomb investigation in the 90's
