Actually - our book of choice to pass around was....."Peyton Place". Both seem less "dirty" in light of today's society.

I remember having to get special written permission to do "Catcher in the Rye" for a book report. The hoot was that when the teacher asked me where I got the idea for the book, I had to tell her that my mother suggested it!

"The Godfather" was another book that got its share of attention in the hallways at school. I think Mario Puzo wrote it (I'm talking before the movie came out). I remember the tattered copy that got passed around that would automatically open to the section that inolved the groom and the bridesmaid at the wedding rehearsal in the closet.

That is hysterical! My mother suggested I read Peyton Place when I was about 11 or 12. I got in trouble when overheard by a teacher talking about the book with my best friend. The teacher was shocked that my mother actually allowed me to read the book!! I did NOT admit that my mother gave me her copy to read!!

R.I.P. Donald Goerke

Spaghettios Inventor Donald Goerke Dies At 83.


Donald Goerke was 83. A Campbell spokesman confirmed that Goerke died of heart failure Sunday in his home in Delran.

He was the marketing research director of Campbell's Franco-American line in the early 1960s when his group started dreaming up pasta in shapes that would appeal to kids.

He chose the o's. They were marketed with the unforgettable tag line, "Uh-oh, SpaghettiOs."
