So we went on a tour of the Bureau of engraving and printing this week. Walked out the exit and this picture practically took itself.

The sun was right, the sky was right, the wind cooperated and turned the flag a little to the right so I could get the shot :teeth:

No cropping needed. No editing needed. All I had to do to the image was rotate it :thumbsup2

Comments from the peanut gallery?

Beautiful shot!!! I love flag pictures....proud to be an American! :thumbsup2

Nice! Good color and saturation.

Maybe a little perspective correction moving the top corners outward. But I could be wrong, everytime I level a horizon or building then look at it a few days later I second guess myself... what do you think?

Maybe some perspective correction can straighten up vertical lines, but then it would not be natural IMO. The way it is now seems correct since the shot is aimed up(very slightly), the correct perspective would be that the higher ends start leaning towards each other.

I see what you mean about perspective correction. If only I'd had a tall ladder handy... :lmao: 3

However, standing there shooting freehand with my little Canon A75, I thought it turned out great. I looked up and I saw a rectangle that was defined by the flagpole, top of the flag, monument, and treeline. All I had to do was center it...

I think when I get a print made I will crop out the very bottom to eliminate the maroon minivan...

Beautiful. I miss the monuments in DC - there is something very special about all of them!!!! I would drive into DC from NO VA almost every Sunday morning and visit The Wall (my brother was KIA), and take in the scenery!

I must get Tara to DC this next summer!

No no no... I like the grass. It seems to make the memorial accessable. Like I can walk right over to it. Just clone away the van. If you are not familiar with the process mail me the original file and I can do it for you.

Please do not misunderstand me. If I took that shot I would print it and hang it on my office wall the very next day! Just great.

I get your point. To my eye, the one thing that could have improved on it just a tiny bit was to have just enough more on the bottom of the frame so that you could see the bottoms of more tree trunks.

I also think the mild convergence of the two principle subjects helps convey a sense of scale...

I'll have this baby printed pretty soon, you can count on that!
