Riding with your family in the front of the monorail.

Anyone having second thoughts about doing this anymore - that is assuming Disney even will still offer it. I was thinking about how tragic it would have been if that family of six that was in the monorail decided to ride up front. They only allow four people - so the family would have been separated.... gives me chills just to think about it.

We will not anymore. I won't let my kids ride in the front seat of our car for this very reason. I just really never thought this type of accident was possible on the monorail. We've had the front car experience, and have the pictures, cards, and memories and that's enough for me.

I would have no problem riding in front of the monorail again.

If you consider the number of trips that a monorail makes daily and multiply that by 5 tracks (3 in WDW and 1 in DL-California, 1 in DL-Tokyo) and then by the number of years each track has been open there have been thousands and thousands and thousands of monorail rides. In all that time on all those rides there has been a single fatal accident. It was a terrible accident, but in many ways (from the reports I have read) a freak accident.

I do not live my life in fear of things that have a very low probability of happening, like another freak monorail accident. I can understand that some people may no longer feel comforatable in front and that they feel that it is unsafe. However, it is statistically far more dangerous to drive to the parks or even take the WDW buses to the parks than it is to ride in front on the monorail. If Disney continues to allow us to ride in front we'll be there!

I would absolutely ride in the front if the opportunity came along. We just had a young friend killed in a car accident but we still get in the car to go everywhere. We are flying to Florida when we go in December........I don't mean for this to sound like a rant, my point is that you cannot live life in a bubble.....

Yes, yes we will. DBF and I did it on our quick trip to DL a couple weekends ago, we are planning to do ride with our girls this next trip and we will try to ride both in front and back. I don't live my life in fear of what ifs, if I did I'd never leave the house.

I would have my family ride there again without a second thought. Accidents happen. It's a sad fact of life. I will protect my family in all reasonable ways, but I won't go to extremes. If I did we'd never ride in a plane or car again. Statistically speaking this seems like a freak incident that isn't likely to happen again.

Yes, we will. We rode up front for the first time on our last trip and thought it was just great! Even with my fear of heights, I felt safe enough. Isn't this like the only big accident they have ever had? Much safer statistics than any other mode of transportation.

It was a freak accident, riding on the carousel is probably more dangerous. I wouldn't think twice about doing it again. I have never been one to overreact to this type of thing.

Its a lot safer there than the plane flight to orlando, or the car trip, or for that matter, the bus.

The fact that it stands out shows how rare it was, and preliminary information shows that something very unusual occurred.

Yeah definitely. Now whether Disney will continue to allow this will be interesting. Yeah this is a freak incident so it doesnt phase me from riding.

This was the first Monorail accident of it's life. So for over 30 years nothing, but safe. I thought I read some where that the Monorail's at Disney travel over 250,000 miles per year. That is a lot of travel without an accident. I don't think anything other type of transportation can make that claim.

Others can make their own choices, but I think this was a freak accident that in no way diminishes the attraction. I appreciate people's concerns and thank them for making the choice to leave the front car open for those who DO want to ride with the driver.

Gosh, lots of snarkiness, imo. I just won't let my family ride in the front, just as I won't let my kids on a frozen pond to ice skate. Some things in life really freak me out. I'm not trying to take away your right to ride in the front car, so chill.

I have never ridden in the front of the monorail. I have requested to ride in the front before but have never been allowed to do so without a significant wait. I don't have kids so I never took the time as it wasn't that important to me. Nevertheless, if I did have children, I would probably ride in the front should they want to experience that even now.

While this is an extremely tragic accident, the odds of this occuring again are slim especially considering the past stats. One accident in 38 years; I face worse odds driving to work each day.
