Rides

I don't think you're going to have a problem. You're not that much heavier than I am, and I'm shorter than you are. I've never had a problem and don't need modified seating.

I'm a similar size and fit on everything just fine. Harry Potter Forbidden journey was a little snug if I was in one of the middle seats but otherwise ok. :thumbsup2

Agree with PPs. If you're still nervous about them, know that Forbidden Journey, Hulk, and Dragon Challenge at least all have modified seating for this instance.

I have never even thought about not being able to fit on rides in Disney so this is depressing but what rides might be a problem for me- 180 pounds, 5'4. Larger chest.

I just got back. I think that you may have a problem on FJ. My daughter, 180 pounds, 5'5" large chest, was unable to ride. They have changed policy regarding the pushing down of the bar by the ride attendant. They will no longer do this and as a result, more people are unable to ride. There are test seats outside the ride that you can try.

I am 5'5" and 220 pounds, and I rode FJ last weekend in a middle seat without any problem, I am also fairly large chested, but was able to pull it down, though it was snug initially. And the TM DID push down on it as well, still...:confused3

My daughter is smaller, 180 5' 5" and she was unable to ride last weekend, Saturday. We were told by the ride attendant that they could no longer help by pushing down on the bar.

So I've never been but I'm wondering....

If the employees aren't able to push down the bars, can someone I'm traveling with do the pushing?

No; only you can push down on your lap bar. Even if someone in your party pushes it down successfully, the TM has the ability to pop the restraints and make you do it yourself (not saying this is definite, but it's a possibility).

I think the TMs right now are trying to sort through what the actual limits are for their assistance. I was last there on Wednesday, and TMs were allowed to push down with one hand at least a little bit.

Was she in an outer seat? Because that's mystifying. I'm bigger and shorter (big chest as well), and have had NO problems in the outer seats.

What came to mind the other day is...what are they doing with children? My son is well over the height limit, but TMs have helped him pull the restraint down to a certain point, simply because him stretching to reach it is taking *time*.

TMs can still pull down restraints to the point where it touches a person's body. It's those needing the extra pushes to get three clicks that are facing a problem now.

This is extremely disappointing to hear - DH was so disappointed last year when he couldnt ride as he couldnt get the three clicks. We have paid a lot of money to go back as he has now lost a bit of weight but if he still cant ride, I can honestly say we may decide never to go back if no-one will assist and he still cant ride FJ - I'm being deadly serious.

This whole thing is completely stressing me out. I thought I was going to be fine but now that they can't help with the clicks I am all worried again. I guess I will just have to give it a try when we go in a few weeks. I don't even mind not riding that much but I really don't want to be embarrassed in front of my husband and kids.

Universal must have been receiving complaints about TMs hurting people when they pushed the restraints down.

We were both in the outer seats and neither of us could ride.

Ok, now i'm worried. My husband is 5' 10" and 230 and i'm 5'4 and just under 200lbs. We are primarily going for HP FJ and now we might not be able to fit? I just lost 30lbs and at my heaviest weight have never had a problem getting on any ride at Disney World. Maybe we need to rethink going to Universal.

OK, thanks! I'd been wondering.

It's your decision to make, but remember, it hurts no one but you and your husband. Universal is SO great, and FJ is just ONE ride...

I'm coming from the perspective of the wife here, who rode with the kid, when DH couldn't ride. The fellow travellers won't even notice. They don't DO anything to embarrass you. They have been kinder than anything to my husband, and haven't acted in ANY way that's negative. Some of the TMs there can't ride, either, remember that! They are in your shoes! The ride is moving while you're getting on, it's all very very FAST, and honestly your husband and children will hardly notice if you can't ride. Just work out your plan ahead of time, remind the kids that there's a possibility you'll be waiting for them in the giftshop, and it will be OK.

DH still can't ride (we joined Weight watchers in Feb, and he had a very rude (emotionally) and surprising awakening at how much he weighed, which made it obvious why he couldn't fit...he was understimating himself by about 80 lbs, poor guy), but he's working on it, and in the meantime there's a lot else that he can do, see, and experience.

The thing he hasn't been, at Universal, is bored or embarrassed.

I imagine so. When I bet those people had asked to have the restraints pushed on. Grr.

I agree with you - its just that after all this 'work' it would be a shame if he still couldnt ride and the CM's refuse to assist a little, as they do in other parks around the world. FJ, to us, is much more than just a ride - its the reason we are visiting US (and travelling a few thousand miles) for a return trip as he couldnt ride last September.

Not much more we can do now though is to see what happens - will report back as we visit in only 4 days now!
