Tolls and Avis' toll 'convenience fees'

On our recent trip, we took the 528 from MCO to Disney. I usually plan to pay cash but didn't realize they made the tolls cashless since August. I was prepared for them to bill tolls by license plate. I got the toll bill from Avis - it was only $2 and something for the actual tolls but $6.95 for Avis' convenience fee, which I understand is the daily charge for each day I am charged a toll. I had my GPS select toll-free options to drive back to MCO.

If I had booked the Visitor Toll pass, would I only pay the $10 deposit, and then get it back minus the whatever I got charged in tolls? If it's a one-time $10 charge (rather than a $10 daily charge) it sounds better, with the catch being it sounds like the issue is wifi/data connectivity in the MCO parking garages to enter your car info into the VTP app
 
We have used the toll pass before and highly recommend it. We have never had issues putting in the license plate number either. I do not know if they have the VTP in Terminal C yet. Just check that first.
 
I second the visitor toll pass. It's super easy but you have to create a new account with each trip (if you use it more than once). You can use the same email but just have to create a new user name. Someone had the brilliant idea of using the trip date as the user name which works great for us.

We usually exit the garage and then stop at the nearest cell phone/waiting area and enter the car info there. We purchased a Sunpass that we bring with us - still have to add the vehicle info. No WiFi issues in the waiting area.

There are VTP kiosks in all 3 terminals at MCO.
 
Are the kiosks so that you can purchase the "hard" pass instead of doing it on an app? And can I assume it is still just the $10? I'm renting from Avis in early April for a road trip from MCO to St. Augustine and not sure what the tolls will cost but don't want to get hammered for them.

The VTP Kiosks dispense a toll pass that you hang on the rearview mirror of the vehicle. You use the VTP mobile app to reserve your pass and then scan the in-app QR code at the VTP kiosk to get it.

Thank you. Apparently, car needs to be picked up AND returned to MCO so this won't work for my trip.
