Riders stuck on Forbidden Journey

Yeah, I saw the news scrolling accross the screen on Local 6. Here' a link to CL News 13:

It's news when a ride breaks down?

Haha... Here is what it says...

"A problem with the new Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey roller coaster at Universal Studios left passengers trapped on the ride Friday night.
Emergency dispatchers told Eyewitness News that the problem was with the roller coaster and that firefighters had been dispatched to the scene.
A total of 132 people were on board the ride when it got stuck.
As of 9:15pm, 5 cars of the ride's 47 cars still needed to be evacuated.
As of Friday night, it was unclear what caused the ride to get stuck, or when the ride would re-open."

WFTV.com is reporting that guests were trapped inside the new Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey attraction at Universal's Islands of Adventure Friday night. Problems with the roller coaster resulted in firefighters being dispatched to the scene. According to WFTV.com, riders were upside down when the ride stopped.

Another Orlando news outlet, WESH.com, has released more details of the incident. According to Orlando Fire Department, the ride got stuck at 8:15 pm. It is not known if anyone required medical attention at this time. 132 guests were on the ride and at 9:15 pm, all but five cars had been evacuated. Guests used the attractions catwalks and ladders to evacuate the ride.

That's pretty weird that they'd be upside down considering that nowhere in the ride do you go upside down.

It's also weird that they would call it a "roller coaster." I wonder if they are actually stuck on Dragon Challenge, which is a roller coaster and actually does go upside down.

I'm sure no one would be shocked that the news didn't get their facts straight and sensationalized a story at WWOHP.

That's what I thought but I haven't ridden it. I found this: "OFD officials said one rider called 911 when the roller coaster stopped Friday night because he thought he was upside down. However, Universal officials said the Forbidden Journey ride doesn't go upside down."

Guess the person panicked. You lay on your back at one point and you might be slightly past horizontal but not much. Must be a really slow news night in Orlando.

The Fox reporter kept saying it's a simulator that doesn't even move much. :sad2:

Riders getting stuck on FJ is about as newsworthy as thunderstorms here in FL. Oh wait, they break into programming and report incessantly on those, too, when it's a slow news day. Sigh.

We were there (just got back to our room) and didn't notice anything unusual going on.

We've gotten stuck on other rides a few times but I never saw a news report about it. How weird that this somehow merited being in the news.

I had wondered if they were on DC instead of FJ due to the comment of being upside down & being a coaster. But after reading other links on it, I realized whom ever called it in stating they were upside down must have just been disoriented. There is no way that FJ even comes close to being a coaster or going upside down.
I will say, I would not want to be stuck in there, hanging in mid air. I would freak out if they had to take me out of the seat & get me down. I need to place my feet on level ground to feel comfy. I have often wondered what I would do if stuck on say DC or the Hulk! They would have to blindfold me & hand pick me up & place me in a cherry picker to slowly bring me down :rotfl:

It's because some stupid guest decided to call 911 from their cell phone when the ride stopped, and they told the dispatcher "the ride had stopped and they were upside down".

The ride doesn't go upside down. You do lay on your back, yes, but not upside down.

Of course since the news monitors all emergency calls, they were told about this and decided to do a news story about it.

What can we learn from this? When the any ride stops, DON'T CALL 911!!! The ride is obviously not functioning properly, and the managers and supervisors know within minutes, if not seconds of this happening. Don't think you're special because you think the ride crews can't handle a ride break down situation. That's probably what they spend the most amount of time training for, actually. Calling 911 is very stupid, and should NOT have been called.

I'm in awe that someone would call 911. I seriously busted out laughing when I read that. I mean its one thing to get a little freaked out but seriously 911!? They have much bigger issues to worry about. I'm sure Universal had everything under control.

Just waiting for all the usual hater comments to fill this thread

"Disney would have had hunkier firefighters" etc

:lmao:

Universal ought to get used to the publicity. Had this happened at WDW the News reaction would have been exactly the same.

So what exactly went wrong??

not true. I was taken off a disney ride before and there was no news coverage about it. I've also heard about evacuations at the mummy, popeyes and other rides before with no news coverage.

I had some lady freak out because she thought I might cut in line ahead of her. She started going off on how I'm rude and how I probably abuse women, she's going to go get her husband, etc. Luckily she had to order her slushie in this 3-person line or 911 would have been the next step :rotfl2: I must have reminded her of a guy who dumped her in high school or something. So if someone goes off on something as minor as their place in a 3-person line imagine them being stuck in a ride with a spider or a death eater staring them in the face.
