This is our first time at Disney in August. We usually come in June. I am here now and we have never expeienced so many ride closures. Space, Indy, Screamin, Roger Rabbit, Splash. Is it usually this bad late in the summer?

I'm not sure there is any difference based on time of year - it may just be pure coincidence. (Aside from the days when So Cal has rolling blackouts - that probably wouldn't happen in any season other than summer!)

Up until our most recent trip, we have never seen TSMM down, and it was down 3 or 4 times during our 4 days in the parks. I think we saw Screamin' down once, and that's about it. In the past, in June, August, and September, we've seen all sorts of random closures - Monsters, Inc., Space, you name it. I'm guessing it's pretty random. I've never thought of it as being particularly bad in summer.

Hope you still have a great trip and that everything you want to ride is open! :)

I'm here right now and so far today I've ridden Screamin, Space, and Splash. Indy has been down but I've ridden the others you mentioned as being closed. Keep checking throughout the day. They are not permanent closures.

From my personal experience, it would be news to note the days on which IJA does not shut down.

A week ago Wednesday, I was stuck in the Space Mountain queue for maybe 15 minutes during a breakdown.

We are here now, and they are closing rides for short periods but the rides open back up. Today just after park opening they shut down Peter Pan for 20ish minutes, then they shut down Alice to retreive my Camelbak water bottle, which fell out of my bag 10 feet from the ride exit. They had to clear all of the vehicles so they could leave their posts and get it. I felt horrible for making so many people wait, but that's their procedure. So if a ride shuts down, it might just be a quick fix and not a full day closure.

And my apologies to anyone who had to wait extra time in Alice's line this morning!

We had closures at our trip during the beginning of August.

I didn't notice any at DL, but we must have backtracked to Monsters Inc. 4 times one day at DCA trying to catch the darn thing ... we never did find it open that day.

The same day as Monters, Little Mermaid was closed ... at the special 9:00am opening for DL resort guests!! The CM announced it while we were standing in line waiting to be let in to DCA. The crowd was grumbling ... pretty much everyone in line was planning to ride first thing! I'm not sure how long it was closed for, but it was open by the time we finished riding Soarin' (about 9:35am).

I guess it's just luck of the draw.

Another "we are here now" response and I would say the number of closures the last three days has been unusually high. Maybe it is related to being so late in summer and rides are ready refurb? POTC went down today -
of all things! Indy has been down a lot as has Screamin. Until last night I feared we might miss it on this trip! FWIW we are in line for Screamin this very moment lol! GRR was Down yesterday. Space was too.

Sadly, this is in my experience as well. Poor Indiana needs a long spa holiday, Disney! :lmao:

GSS, even after its long refurb/retheme was down and evactuated yesterday night. Don't know the reason though.

Though I would agree with Hydroguy, since it's summer things are operating at max levels and may of reached the breaking points.

We got back from 2.5 days there earlier this week (Sunday-Tuesday). The only non-scheduled closures we ran into were Splash (which was open when we tried again 15 minutes later) and BTMRR (which was open the next time we walked by - 2.5 hours later). GRR (my girls' favorite ride this trip. DD4 was just barely tall enough to ride it) kept having mini-breakdowns, where the ride would stop for a couple of minutes before resuming. We experienced this both in line and on the ride multiple times. On Tuesday, the folks in line behind us said they had waited out a Toy Story closure the previous day and my friends got to be the first on pirates after a closure Sunday afternoon.

I must say that when Splash was down (our planned first ride on our first day), I was hoping that the whole trip wouldn't be like that (remembering Tino's experience), but I was pleasantly surprised. I would have been even more surprised if BTMRR didn't go down on us, as I remember that one being down a lot our last trip as well.

I think a lot of it is timing. With the right timing, you could hit a bunch of ride closures, or not hit any at all - and still be visiting the same rides on the same day!

We were very lucky last week (Wednesday - Monday) in that we encountered few closures of rides that we wanted to ride at that moment. That being said, we saw Space, Buzz, Nemo, Star Tours, Big Thunder, and Toy Story all closed at least once. We went to get our Indy fastpasses mid-morning once when they were just bringing the system back up, so we had to wait briefly in line for them to do that; I assume the ride had been down. We looked at MouseWait before heading over to rides occasionally and were impressed by the number of closures listed sometimes during the day, but we didn't verify these all ourselves. My guess about all the closures is that it could just be the wear and tear of running these rides 16 hours a day, day after day. I still remember our New Year's trip of several years ago. I think we'd pretty much seen everything break down at some point or another during that trip. The boys refused to ride Peter Pan because it had broken down so many times they were convinced they would be stuck on it. Most CMs at the time commented that they felt like a lot of rides were due for maintenance since they'd been going non-stop for the entire holiday season and that they'd seen this pattern before.

During our last trip,8/10-12, I ran into a few ride closures. All of them were very temporary. The biggest at splash was when they loaded 6 'linebackers' into a log and got it stuck on the brakes. It not as easy as just pushing a reset button to get the rides back in service.
