Has anyone done this either as a ride-along or a driver? I have two kids both 17 that I want to treat to this experience.

And do kids get a discount if the parent also buys a ticket? Cannot figure out the pricing on the website.

I did it years ago it was a blast, I did the driving one for 8 laps. Man that 8 laps went fast.

DH did it about 5 years ago as a driver. I don't know about now, but back then, you had to be able to drive a standard shift. Also, I don't know if the minimum age for driving might be 18, or just have their driver's license. He really loved it then.

I want to do that so bad . You have to be able to drive a stick for sure though . I saw its in the discount book for dvc members too

DH did the driving one a few years ago, and still talks about it as one his most memorable experiences :cool1:
unfortunately, i didn't know that i could have stayed as a spectator. also, he was offered additional laps for a great discount (50% i believe :confused3), but they had to be following the original ride and he didn't bring a CC.

it's one of those things that should be on everyone's bucket list (excluding mine, until they make a race car with automaic shift:)).

Very Highly recommended here, particularly for an attitude adjustment: My Daughter did the ride-along a couple years back when she was 16 and going through an I-hate-Disney stage. She loved it to the point that it changed her from hating our Disney trips into loving them and the new experiences they can bring.

Most of the time is spent getting the suit and helmet on.... then I thought for sure she'd tumble backward climbing through the window

She had the hugest grin on her face for the rest of the day, I'd post her pic, but she'd kill me.

gave it to my husband quite a few years back for his birthday/Christmas gift. Used the DVC discount. He did the 30 lap ride and had such a fabulous time. He was allowed to go 145. The instructor said that they base it on experience and how many Richard Petty's they have done.

It is a short track, so it is rather intense. My husband agrees that it is the best ride in Disney and looks forward to the day when our sons are old enought and they all can do it.

Side note: They've added a road course and some exotic cars this year. Pricey but there is a DVC discount. I haven't done it yet but will be in October.

When are you going? FOr the past 2-3 years, they have sold a gift card at Christmas for 1/2 price. It never expires but, cannot be used until January following that Christmas when purchased.

I am planning on surprising my son for his birthday with the Rookie Experience.
His birthday is the day after Christmas. Thought this would be a great gift
for a 26 year old.
Does anyone know of any discounts?

Go on your dvcmember page and they are listed.

Have fun

Check eBay for certificates for an experience as well. I got a King's Experience (18 laps) for about the price of the 8 lap experience.

It was awesome!

As far as top speed goes, that's hard to say for sure because they only give you average lap speed. I averaged 145 as my fastest lap, so top speed was likely 160, 170?
