For anyone who has ever flown out of Richmond, Va what are your experiences and what should I expect? TIA

Not sure what you're looking for, but I'll try. The airport is easy to find and navigate - also not very much traffic to contend with. I normally get a park, sleep and fly airport and have the hotel's transportation take me to the terminal and then pick me up when I come back. However, if you want to park there, there is plenty of parking. There is a garage right there at the terminal, although you'll pay for that convenience. There is an offsite place to place called Park'N Go, which I've used before. It's cheaper than paying the RIC parking prices, including the off-site ones operated by RIC.

RIC redid its terminal a few years ago, and it's much nicer than it used to be. Everything is pretty much contained within one building, with one set of gates going in one direction and another set of gates going in the opposite direction within the same building. I think they consider it terminals A and B, and they both have their own security screening, but again, all of this is contained within the same buildling. When I flew out of there last month, I did find out that they had the full body scanners that I was selected to go thru. They didn't make my mom go through this, so I guess they're just picking people at random.

They have several restaurants there, including a Cheeburger Cheeburger - yum! However, I noticed when I few back and got in around 8 p.m. that a lot of their restaurants had already closed for the day.

A lot of people say that flying out of RIC is very expensive, but I've found some good deals before. When I went last month, I had a direct flight to and from Orlando on Jet Blue, which was great! I think the airfare was around $210, but I booked these flights only about 3 weeks before I went, so I probably could have gotten them cheaper if I had been able to book them sooner.

Hope this information is what you're looking for and that it helps! I've always enjoyed flying out of Richmond - I just wish they had more direct flights!

Thanks!!! That is exactly what I wanted!

We are flying jet blue for 172 round trip/pp. We don't leave until 5pm so we are just going to go up that morning. I'm really glad to hear that's it's easy to get to, as Richmond can be VERY confusing if you get into contruction. What did you think about jet blue?

I love Jet Blue and fly them whenever I get the chance. It feels like they have more legroom to me. Plus, you get Direct TV and XM/Sirius radio. Being able to watch that really makes the flight go by faster for me. Another bonus is that they come around with all sorts of snacks (chocolate chip cookies, animal crackers, some sort of Doritos mix, potato chips, and a few other things), as well as soft drinks. Oh, I forgot to add - you can check one bag for free.

The airport is on the east end of town. Which way are you planning on driving there? There always seems to be construction going on in Richmond, and with all of the potholes they have down there now, they're really working on a lot of roads. The big construction when they're shutting down lanes they tend to do at night, though, so you should be OK.

We normally go 460 to 360 when we go to richmond, but we can go 29 to 64 if that way would be better to go. Which was do you suggest?

Hmmm, that's a good question. I suspect from where you live that going 460 to 360 might be faster. I used to live in Richmond, and one time I visited my brother who lives in Bedford, so I went that way. I can't remember much about the drive, though, since it was so long ago. I now live west of Charlottesville, so I always go 64 to 295 and get off at the RIC exit from 295. I'm still betting that 460/360 would be best for you.
