While listening to the radio just now, the Rhino Shield Add caught my ear; http://www.rhinoshield.net/ They were touting their product and then went on to say " when Disney World built their new Mono Lisa Resort, they contacted us for a product that would last." I never heard of the MLR and certainly didn't see any new resort under construction on property. It isn't on property, and considering that they are advertising Universal and Sea World, it is doubtful that they have a financial interest in it. Have you heard this ad?

I've never heard of it but it is in Celebration, FL. Doesn't Disney have an interest in Celebration? I thought they did. :confused3

Disney owns Lake Buena Vista but leases the land to the other hotels, Hilton, etc, there. I have searched the web site and see no indication that they own MLS.

Disney built Celebration and I believe that they still own some part of it. If that's the case, it may be a stretch but it's not wrong for them to use Disney's name. From what I recall, I thought that the ad referenced Disney, not Disney World.

Mona Lisa Suites Hotel is managed (and was apparently developed by) Graves Hotels.Resorts, a company "founded in 1979 as a real estate development and management company, Minneapolis-based Graves Hotels Resorts is focused on cultivating niche markets of development in upscale urban core and leisure destination markets. In 2003, the company opened its flagship, sophisticated modern luxury hotel the Graves 601 Hotel Minneapolis. Development plans call for the addition of five Graves-branded hotels in Chicago, New York City, San Diego, and Costa Rica." http://www.graveshotelsresorts.com/about-us.asp

In this case, I would say that "Rhino Shield" & its advertising agency are probably overstating their claims to have been used at "Walt Disney World's Mona Lisa Resort". Disney Corporate *and* Graves Hotels might be interested, Disney Corporate because their name is being taken in vain ;) and Graves because they don't want to piss off a powerful multinational company that they do business with.

The "Mona Lisa Suites Resort" is operating in the town of Celebration, but not everything in Celebration is owned or managed by Disney Corporate.
...With the rising population, Disney has divested most of its control over Celebration in the years since it founded the town

and

In 2004, the Disney Company sold the 16-acre town center to Lexin Capital, a private real estate investment company.

I listened to the commercial on the Rhino Shield website, & didn't hear a specific reference to "Disney World" or to the product being used in Celebration.

Of course this is based on wikipedia, which we all know is such an accurate source of information. ;) I'm betting that they have enough of a connection to be able to use Disney's name legally. And again, I think they just referenced Disney, not Walt Disney World.

Yeah, sometimes wikipedia's stuff is inaccurate ::yes:: but just the first article I quoted is from wikipedia and is referenced (with a bibliography of two books & 12 different sources).
I also quoted an "about.com""architecture" article (which I agree is not always the most well-sourced information) and the Graves' company own website as well. I guess I'm not sure what problems there are with the facts or with my theories. Since I have not heard the commercial in question, I did say

On the official website for the town of Celebration (http://www.celebration.fl.us/celbusiness.html#Hotels), (the) Mona Lisa Suites (Hotel) is listed as "Mona Lisa" under "Hotels" with no "Disney" or "Disney World" in front of the name. I was unable to find the resort listed anywhere with the name "Disney" in front of it or with the location as "Disney World" including the hotel's own website (http://www.monalisasuitehotel.com/), tripadvisor.com & expedia.com.

I think the hotel is probably on par with the various "Good Neighbor" hotels located near Disney World, but short of talking to someone at Graves Hotels corporate or in Mona Lisa management, or looking up Mona Lisa corporate/business documents, there is no way to know for sure if Rhino Shield is mischaracterizing the resort as "Disney's" or as "Disney World's", etc.

Seems a bit confusing, and maybe a call to Rhino Shield would help out anyone really bugged by this.

"If you’re planning a Disney World vacation then you should choose to stay in one of the only Disney World resorts in Florida that truly caters to its guests’ needs. "

From this page.

Starts off with "Disney World resorts in Florida have become so common but there’s nothing common about the Mona Lisa Suite Hotel."

The page is a little confusing, first sounding like they are part of it, then saying they're better than the WDW resorts. :)

From Country Club Merchant magazine in 2008...

Rhino Shield is proud to announce that they have just secured the Disney contract to paint the Mona Lisa in Celebrations Hotel at Disney World, Orlando, Florida.

Now that's a funny way to put it. Did the ad even have anything to do with the hotel, or is there a Mona Lisa copy at this other hotel?

"Happily we stumbled across the Mona Lisa. It's a brand new condo style hotel that was developed by Disney but is owned independently."

from a review on Yelp.

The whole way that stuff seems to get worded about this place is odd to me.

...and this matters, why? :confused3
Because the OP wanted to discuss it is why. You could respond this way to most topics on the CB if you think about it.

I agree. It's probably intentional so that they don't have any legal issues.
