Revival of the angry thread!

Yeah, but everybody on Long Island makes 500 thou a year. It's all relative. Beers at Phyllis' tonight.

I'm angry because the Podunk City (a.k.a. Polk City - populaton 1785 as of the 2000 census) wants to annex our development into the city limits - if you can call it a "city". This would raise our property taxes 50%. The "city" consists of:

1 Texaco & 1 Chevron Station
1 Mobile Home set up as a Nail/Tanning Salon
1 Statuary Store
6 Mom/Pop Restaurants
1 Marshall Arts Center
1 Grocery Store (if you can call it that - IGA)
1 Ice Cream Stand - only open from 11a-6p
1 Ace Hardware
1 Feed Store
1 Veterinary Office
1 Self-Store Facility
1 Small Dollar General
1265 - Old, decrepid mobile homes

The "city" puts up some Christmas decorations left over from 1957, and there is a small playground area deemed the "city park". These are the only BIG items operated by the City.

There is no benefit to us to be annexed, but with the "city" being able to charge on average of $1600 taxes on almost 400 homes, that would be a BIG plus for the city. This sucks big time!!!

Our HOA is fighting this of course, but in my previous experience with this sort of thing, the Gov't, no matter how small, usually wins.

Maybe I'll let Bank of America repo my house - cause nobody is buying any real estate!

My property tax bill just arrived....up $1800 from last year!!! WTH??? Did someone forget the country is hurting right now????

We pay about $900 a year for the vacant 4 acre lot next door (curbed streets w/underground utilities in a subdivision...not farmland) and about 2k a year on our house and the 2.5 acres it sits on...think I'll stay where I am! (I love my neighbors!!)

We live in the county..but the city is getting ready to annex us..which will double my taxes and the only thing I'll get out of it is trash pick up! :sad2:

Our property taxes are in the $3,500 range, probably going up due to the way the economy is. We just started our income taxes for this year and it's starting to look like we will owe more than $900 beyond what we have already shoveled into the pit. Excise tax bills just came in (a property tax on vehicles) and I just found out that for some reason because of the state we live in we are not allowed to deduct taxes and vehicle registration fees??? You can in other states, but not here? What the ....?:confused3

Trying to keep a positive outlook on things, we both are still employed at jobs we like and have great coworkers.

No deduction in PA for vehicle registrations, and deductions are few and far between. We are a flat tax state, so the form is simple but you pay tax from the first dollar you make to the last. Not to mention all the nuisance taxes in PA - local services tax, business privilege tax, per capita tax - the list goes on and on. A couple of years ago my county raised property taxes by 70%!!!!!!! This year, the two school districts I deal with (one for the house, another for the office) are whining about not having enough money, so you know what that means.

Our property tax bill last year was just over $5K. Our county tax district has a surplus in the bank, but they show no indication of giving a tax break. We finally ran the HOA leadership out of here a couple of years ago because of the way they were spending our money, now 2 of them have gained election to the tax district board. Heaven help us now! :faint:

Funny how MI gets banged up for having such high taxes but my property taxes are well below $3000, I don't pay an excise tax on my car and our sales tax is still 6%. We pay income tax also but on balance I don't see where I am paying any more than anyone else from the other states.
Every Govt agency has taken big cuts (except welfare)
If we could just get rid of our Canadian socialist Governor I think we would be in good shape for a recovery.

Man! I guess I don't live in too bad a place. We only pay county taxes, but our home was only $1200 for 2008....and that was an increase! This is for 4,000 sq ft on 6 acres with a pool! I will hereby, stop b**ching.

I logged in online this morning to listen to my XM radio and there was a note saying that as of March 11th, it would no longer be part of my subscription! I will now have to pay and extra $2.99 a month to log on. This used to be part of the subscription! Ug! They claim that they are upgrading the online service. Hogwash. The only way you can keep getting it free is if you sign up for their yearly or lifetime service. I really enjoyed listening to the channels online.:sad2:

By the way, Siruis is doing this too.

I guess I'll be okay. I listen to the Sirius radio at the office and only once in a while online at home, but I do the yearly subscription.

That stinks Jen!! Although I rarely listen to my XM online. The station I listen to mostly (Old Time Radio) 164 isn't online anyway.

Property tax = $1251.00 on home and 5 acres, not too bad

Tags for each car just under $100.00, they call it a wheel tax, yikes

Count tax = 9.75 percent, this is even on food, yikes

So far Tennessee has done a great job fighting off the State income tax.

We get XM radio as part of our Direct TV. There are quite a few nice stations.

Oh..wait.. you don't mean that kind of relative...:headache:

sorry this taps dry.. But your still welcome to come if you BYOB !:thumbsup2

Thought I'd share this with you guys...

Stimulus package explained

"Sometime this year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. This is a very exciting
new program that I will explain using the Q and A format:

"Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment? :confused3
"A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.:thumbsup2

"Q.. Where will the government get this money? :confused3
"A. From taxpayers.:sad1:

"Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
"A. No, they are borrowing it from China. You children are expected to repay the Chinese.

"Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
"A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

"Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
"A. Shut up."

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the US economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:

If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.

If you spend it on gasoline it will go to Hugo Chavez, the Arabs and Al Queda.

If you purchase a computer it will go to Taiwan.

If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, Chile, and Guatemala.

If you buy a car it will go to Japan and Korea.

If you purchase prescription drugs it will go to India

If you purchase heroin it will go to the Taliban in Afghanistan

If you give it to a charitable cause, it will go to Nigeria.

And none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America. You can keep the money in America by spending it at yard sales, going to a baseball game, or spend it on prostitutes, beer (domestic ONLY),:thumbsup2 or tattoos, since those are the only businesses still in the US. ::yes::
