Revival of the angry thread!

I almost had a seriously angry moment and a dead spouse. We were putting the house back to normal after taking down the Christmas stuff and I asked Rick where my crystal wine decanter was.

He told me he gave it to the cleaning lady that cleaned the house while I was at Disney!!

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

That decanter was given to me by my grandmother and is probably at least 50 years old and worth quite a bit.

He got on the phone ASAP and confessed to his stupidity and did get it back, but whoah, that was a close one.

Can I come clean your house next time you go to Disney? :rotfl2:

Okay....so December 23rd I get a sore throat & came down with the flu crap & was sick all through the Christmas weekend. Yesterday....I relapse with the same crap all over again!!! I called my Dr yesterday asking if I could come in & get some antibiotics. I never do this because I don't want to over-use antibiotics, thus running the risk of making them ineffective when I really need them. I figure since I'm really not shaking this stuff I must really need them this time.

His nurse asked me to describe my symptoms...low grade fever, burning bronchial tubes, coughing up some rather nasty stuff, feeling like I got in Pete's way while he was making a pull-thru site at FtW (lol) - - - the usual flu symptoms. The nurse told me that my Dr was NOT seeing people with the flu because there were so many people sick with it!!! Whoa!! They called a prescription in to Walgreens for a Z-pack & tessalon perles. This is the third time since October I've had this crap. Not fair!!! I even had a flu shot!!

I took today off from work & called out sick at THD last nite. I haven't called out sick from work in...I can't remember when!!!

I'M ANGRY!!!!

Coming out of lurkdom (again) to say I'm sick of sickness also! Been very busy lately with multiple doctors appointments with our oldest who has not felt well since his cancer treatments started in August 2007. He missed over 20 days of school this fall due to stomach issues and abdominal pain.

Short story; his doctor at Children's Hospital pulled some strings for us and advocated on his behalf to get him an early appointment with a pediactric GI specialist right before Thanksgiving. Multiple trips since then and we find that he has Celiac disease! (This is the problem where you can't eat wheat, barley, rye or oats). Poor kid! How would you like to be 16 and know you will never be able to drink a beer again (let's face it; he's 16 and has probably already had a few). To top it off, this is considered to be an inherited disease and the rest of the family should be tested.

Oh well, at least we know why he's been constantly sick and changing his diet will help. It's just that a gluten free diet can be $$$ and hard to keep track of. Could be worse. Celiac patients do not get severe/life threatening allergic reactions like people with other food allergies. And there is always Kungaloosh instead of beer. Yeah, that's it. Feeling better now.

Gosh Deb..that sounds awful.:scared: I don't blame you for being ANGRY!
Poor baby, ...hope you're back to feeling better real soon....with NO relapse!
You need to stop working so hard, and get some REST!

As another Dad with a son whose diet is difficult to maintain, I feel your pain. Hang in there Dan! :)

Deb, I agree with Phyllis, get some rest and hopefully the antibiotics will knock all of the flu out this time.

Dan, now that you know what's wrong you can fix it. Always bettter than not knowing.

Debbie, you always were the sickly one - you go through prescriptions like I go through beer!

Goodness Dan, your son has been through so much! I hadn't read an update from you in awhile....I know you had a Fort trip in August? After he had treatments and such. How is that part of his health going??? I think about him often and hope that he can start living a normal teenage life. As for the Gluten stuff...that sucks, but a good health food store will become his best friend! I think he'll be amazed at how good he feels after he gets all that crap out of his system! I wish you all the best!!!!!

Dan:

I know a number of people with Celiac disease and, while it is no picnic, a change in diet can have dramatic results. While somewhat labor intensive, once it becomes a habit it's not so bad. Even most restaurants today will prepare meals specially if you ask, and I know for a fact that the chefs at WDW restaurants are very accomodating when it comes to this disease. There is a book written by I believe a Swedish physician with a diet that has worked wonders for a couple of people I know who have used it. I am right now trying to find who the author is so I can give you this info.

You know...you're right! Why is that?? I can't remember a single year in my childhood that I didn't either have strep throat or pneumonia at least one time during the year. I may get sick, but I'm not "sickly". Never give in - never give up!

It's the 3 P syndrome - Piss Poor Protoplasm

I'm having like no luck finding this book. It's killing me that I can't remember the author since I recommended it to a doc I know who has celiac - sprue disease and she has had an amazing remission. I gotta call her when I have a minute.

Dan you might like this site or at least your wife might. http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/

I have a friend who found out she has celiac this year. This ladies website is all gluten free crockpot meals. I have tried some myself and they are good.

YES, I am here again, however, this one turns out well in the end...

Last night, we go to a school/church function that is raising money for the 6th grade class for their events for the rest of the school year. They are having a spaghetti dinner and live and silent dessert auction in the gym. We go and are having a great time. My son is entertaining everyone on the live auction for the guitar hero because he thinks we need another one and starts bidding for it. Mommy doesn't really have the money for plus WE DON'T HAVE A PLAYSTATION 3! He had everyone in stitches...but I digress here...

I wanted to donate some money to the class and get a really cool dessert, some apple cake thing that I saw so I kept bidding on it. They finally called time on the silent auction and were taking up the papers and this elderly lady starts to run (and yes, she was at a trot) stealthily towards the table. She had seen me leave and waited until the ladies were distracted by someone while picking up auction papers. She then proceeded to write her name down on the paper with my apple cake and up me by a dollar. She was so proud of herself, she sat there and waited for them to come and pick up the paper. I went up to her and said, "I cannot believe you just outbid me three minutes after they called time!"

She looked at me with this evil little grin and said, "I outbid you by a dollar." To which I replied, "Fine example in a church you are to these kids. You win a cake by cheating." My son was standing right there with me at the time. I probably should not have said it, but that was so intentional.

I was so mad, I really didn't want to leave without saying something to the organizers and she left and went back to her seat. I went up to the ladies with the papers about 5 minutes later (after stewing in my seat a while) and was prepared to offer more money for the cake so the kids could have it and she could go home a cakeless cheater. She had crossed her name off the list and said she no longer wanted the cake.

I certainly don't want to guilt someone into me winning a cake in some little fundraiser, but being a teacher and having my son in a private church school, I just couldn't sit and let that stand.

Kudos to you, Jen! I think it's fine that you called this woman out for being a cheater. It's a shame more people don't stand up for themselves this way, afraid of causing a scene or not being politically correct. I think you handled it exactly the right way! :thumbsup2
