So, it's now 4/9, and it is our day to spend at my favorite park Animal Kingdom. We decided to spend the entire day there because there's so much to see and do, and we still didn't see everything- even though we had the Evening EMH. So, we decided to eat lunch and dinner at this park. Our CS restaurant was Flame Tree and our ADR was at Yak and Yeti.
Flame Tree Barbecue
Now, just last night I embarrassed myself eating my weight in ribs, so guess what I had for lunch? MORE RIBS! And my DW had the pulled pork sandwich. My two DSs had the chicken wings. And we had the key lime pie.
OK. I'm glad I had the ribs. Those ribs were actually better than WCC. They were more tender and had better flavor. Flame Tree had the best ribs in WDW, IMO. After all the ribs I had the previous day, I thought that I would never have an enjoyable lunch eating ribs, but I did. Oh, and the key lime pie was good, too.
If you go to any CS at WDW, go to Flame Tree. It's the best, especially if you are a carnivore.
Yak and Yeti
My Yak and Yeti experience was funny. First of all, after over an hour waiting in the hot sun trying to get onto the Kali River Rapids ride (and having a Thumb Wrestling Battle Royal Tournament with about three other families while in line), we finally got on the ride. And gotten soaked. Badly. Sitting with people on the raft that came on a wet ride with rain coats. Which, to us, defeated the purpose.
Well, didn't you know it? Right after we left the ride, it rained. And we saw Finding Nemo: The Musical. While wet and now, cold. And the weather stayed cloudy and cooler.
So, hours later, I was wet, cold, and sitting in the nice, air-conditioned restaurant: Yak and Yeti.
Yak and Yeti looks old. It looks like a restaurant that you've just missed it all the other times that you've visited AK. That's a cool effect.
Well, we ordered our meals: my DW had the Honey Chicken, my MIL had the Chicken Lo Mein, the kiddies had the chicken nuggets and the veggie lo mein, and I had the Duck.
My wife really liked the honey chicken. It was typical Chinese fare. But she liked it. My MIL was still full from lunch, so my older DS just loved eating her chicken Lo Mein along with his veggie lo mein. It really was prepared well and was tasty. My duck was great, too. You have to try it. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The glaze was sweet, but had an effervescent finish. Oh, but watch out... it is duck: there's fat on one side that you would need to cut out. But it was HALF the Duck! I was full.
Now the desserts are just great. I had the mango pie. It's like key lime, but mango instead. My MIL had the chocolate brownie sundae. BIG MISTAKE! It was HUGE! It was very good, but it's a meal onto itself! And my DW had the Fried Wontons. I warned her against it, because of the bad reviews that I've read on this board, but she ordered it anyway. SHE LOVED IT! They looked great. They had this cream cheese center and smothered in pineapples and this sweet honey vanilla sauce. WOW!
She told me to stop listening to those crazy people on the DIS board.
Oh, and I guess we're the kind of people that strangers come up and tell us about their hopes, dreams, and concerns. The waitress was very nice. She did open up about her life at home with her son and the issues that she have with him. She was very personable. I guess we gave her some good advice. I checked the news later on that night and she was not on it, so that was a good sign.
All in all, Yak and Yeti is a good restaurant. I highly recommend the Duck. The honey chicken is a safe choice. And if you're hungry, or have a chocolate addiction, order the brownie sundae. You will O.D., but you'll be set for the week. But if you're adventurous, or if you want a little danger with your dessert, order the Wontons. They were great.
Next up: Pizza Planet and Sci-Fi Dine-In Theatre.
