reusable spillproof plastic bottle for lunches - anyone???

The Nalgene ones are more what I was looking for. I'm assuming since the rectangle ones say they are a good size for a backpack or cooler that they're safe for drinking from?

I use juice containers found in the juice aisle. They are pre-filled with some type of juice like apple or orange. They're packaged in bundles of six or eight and are faily cheap. They have mouths wide enough to fit a bottle brush inside for cleaning and also the caps fit very snuggly.

Would they be ok for a 13 year old at school? I think so as long as I get the plain without a character but those of you that have them.....what do you think?
Around here, it would be very uncool to carry anything that is reminiscent of something a grade-school child would have. Silly, I know, but that's the middle school mindset.

Now in high school, it's a different story. High school girls are more likely to take a green approach to carrying their lunches. They also prefer to bring their lunch rather than eat the high-fat, high-carb stuff that they serve up in the cafeteria (Gotta fit into that fall formal dress!). The guys are another story. It's still not cool to carry a "lunch kit" for high school guys around here. Lunches go into a paper or plastic bag and everything gets tossed at the end of lunch.

We used to use the Thermos Funtainers but they don't hold enough for my thirsty kids so now we use Polar insulated BPA-free 20 oz. water bottles...they have a huge assortment of colors so we have one for each member of the family and even my 2 y.o. loves his "bot"! They are extremely durable and keep drinks cold for a long time. I bought our 5 bottle on Amazon and we have been using them for almost a year and they've held up great. Plus my 2 y.o. throws his around all the time....he's cracked a few bottoms of the funtainers, but hasn't damaged the Polar on anyway. We use these everyday-we also took them to WDW too and would fill them up with the free large cups of ice water from CS. Ours have a small black plastic removable handle that sticks off the top and they also fit perfectly in the side mesh pocket of my kids backpacks.

I have two of these, but unfortunately have not had great luck with them. Both of them leak when tipped over :confused3

Much better luck with the funtainers.

We use empty used water bottles that we recycle. THey last quite a while before we need to replace them.

That's what we do... I have an endless supply and if one gets forgotten or lost it's no big deal!

Really? We've never had any of ours leak and like I said we use them everyday and have been for almost a year! Maybe you got defective ones :confused3

I bring my lunch to school every day along with a water bottle. My Nalgene bottle doesn't leak, but I've also had good luck with Rubbermaid products. I have a small juicebox sized bottle that doesn't leak at all. I've found that the rubber seals in the bottle caps dry out and crack over time. I think I expedited this by putting the bottle in the freezer...oops. Now I don't put the cap on when I freeze the bottle and the caps and seals last a really long time. One of my bottles I've had for 6 years and have used it regularly.

Why don't they make regular thermos bottles anymore? I remember the metal lunch boxes that came with a matching thermos--I loved those bottles! Soup, milk, juice,we could put anything liquid in it.

Now I spend $12 for a lunch bag and nothing comes with it. And then I have to search high and low for a thermos that will fit into it. And the ones they have now don't have the screw off cover/cup so on winter days I have to send 2 small thermos type bowls in the bag so my kids will have enough soup to fill them because the bigger ones are too deep to spoon soup out of along with another bottle for their drink. And of course with all that in there it takes a magician to get the zipper to close so they usually skip having bread or crackers to go with it.

That's my problem with a lot of the water bottles -- they're too big. By the time I get a sandwich, fruit, and crunchy item (ie. pretzels, wheat thins, etc) in the lunch box, then I have little space left for a drink bottle.

When I was a kid in the late 80's, my mom found a cheap clear plastic flask with double screw top lids at the dollar store. It was flat and broad, like a regular flask, and it fit perfectly into my lunchbox. She even would freeze applejuice in it and it would keep the rest of my lunch cool and would be thawed at lunchtime. I got a few looks the first time I brought a flask full of amber-colored liquid to lunch, but after a couple days other kids were begging their parents for one.

Don't know if you can find them anymore, but it's worth a shot.

Eh, I'd definitely call the principal to check before I bought a hip-flask for a kid to use. Some schools have such strict no-tolerance policies these days that even APPEARING to be carrying or consuming a forbidden substance can get you in trouble.

As to finding them, that's easy. They are on end-cap displays in every liquor store I've ever been in.
