It's great to earn Rapid Reward points for online shopping simply by entering that website through the SWA-RR shopping mall.
I have also returned items and had the points later subtracted from my RR account, as expected.
So what if you already spent the points? I recently used up all except around 1000 pts. I have 2 items I need to return which together earned around 2800 pts. (4 pts per $).
We also have the SWA visa and regularly earn 2500-3500 pts per month so if it did go into a negative number, that would be reversed by the end of the month.
What I'm worried about is would they cancel my flight? I know I could wait until my cc points post to my account but then I'd have to pay for the $700-something item. I'd much rather return it and have the credit post to my cc account within the same billing cycle.
I hope I'm making sense.
