Does anyone know which stores will take returns without a receipt after Christmas?

OK folks. The OP asked a question with a specific answer. Let's limit our answers to answering that question.

I think that some people must have missed my request earlier in this thread. This thread will not become a debate.

Hi everyone.....Well I feel guilty, I feel odd, and then I feel = well lets get this over with. I thank everyone for their ideas and insight. This thread has been a learning experience.
I didn't get a deal in St. Thomas...letter written to cruiseline. I have already sold the Ipod at a loss to a neighbor. The gray area made me very uncomfortable.
Thanks for all your help and input. Lesson learned.
Hi, OP! I'm glad you found a resolution to your problem. At least you got some of your money back! :sunny:

Just in case anyone isn't aware, Toys R Us changed their return policy this summer-they will not accept ANY returns without a receipt, not even for store credit. My dd7 got a duplicate gift for her b-day this past Sept-had received the same thing last Christmas from her aunt. Toys R Us is the only place in town currently carrying this toy. I was told no receipt-no return. They told me I had to ask the gift giver for a gift receipt. I think that's rude even if it's someone I'm close to, but this gift was from a little girl in my daughter's class and her parents don't even speak fluent English, so how on earth am I supposed to get a gift receipt from them? I ended up purchasing another one of the items, so I got my real receipt and a gift receipt. Then I returned the one I bought with my original receipt, and went back and returned the other one a few days later with the gift receipt for store credit. What a pain in the neck, but I feel they did that to themselves when they changed their policy!

I salute you! that is a great idea. The other week I tried to exchange a POTC mega blok set that I had gotten for DS for xmas and he got the same thing from someone else for his bday. I had bought it at toysrus but could not find the sales slip. The girl would not let me exchange or anything (I realize that they are now on sale but credit for the current sale price would have been fine with me) but it was no go. I was fairly chapped when I left there. So it ended up going back to walmart and I used the store credit to get something else for DS. you do what you gotta do.

You do have an idea there though...something to store away in my memory for future reference. I had forgotten about being able to get a gift slip

Wow ! And some of you wonder why the return policies have gotten so harsh!
It is because of people who will not play by the rules(returning things to a store they were not purchased at, playing games with receipts) that have caused stores to be so strict. If you receive a gift you do not want either suck it up and ask for the receipt or take what the store it was purchased at offers you. I can't think of a store around me that will accept returns without a receipt except for Walmart. Gee, I wonder why.

Now that is just plain wrong. There are lots of food items I buy that either myself & hubby and or the kids do not like, and I would never think to return used food items. You should have just given them to someone who liked them. Tha is just crazy that because you didn't like the taste you return it. :confused3 What's next?

Normally I would agree with you but Costco is a different story. They research and stand by every item they sell and clearly state that they will give you your money back without question if you are ever unhappy. I certainly wasn't going to force myself or my son to eat 18 more Uncrustables and to throw them out would have been a waste of food and money. If it was a dollar or two I wouldn't have cared, but I think it may have been $10-$12 for the bulk size box. I don't know anyone else who would eat them either. I figured the worst they could say was no but it worked out for them because I'm a happy customer who won't hesitate to buy anything there because I am confident in their return policy.

I have to say I really love the way Nordstom and Dillards tag their items. No need to hold onto your original receipt or to get a gift receipt. They just scan the sticker on the back of the tag and have all the info they need to do a return.

I guess that exact system could be a bit cumbersome when it comes to stores like Target where you might be buying a whole cartload of stuff - but it seems like they should be able to come up with a similar system that would work.

Glad you came up with a workable solution OP

Well just to add to reasons not to shop at TRU. I bought my son wireless controllers for his PS2 last Friday. Needless to say they didnt work. I took them back to TRU with my receipt on Sunday. They were out of stock of the controllers I bought and would not return them because they were open and would not give me a refund but said I would have to take in store credit. I understand wanting me to exchange them for the exact same item because they were open but they didnt have them. They kept insisting in store credit was the only way they could remedy it. I called over two managers and explained that in store credit would not help me when I tried to get them somewhere else that day. They said they would check another store and I could drive 45 minutes somewhere else to get them which I wasnt going to do. I said if you could have them brought over to their store that would be fine but I wasnt driving that far out of my way because of faulty products they sold me. It was more principal that they sell me something that doesnt work, they dont have it in stock and expect me to just take in store credit for a $40 purchase that I am going to have go spend the money on somewhere else. So in the mean time they are puzzled that they do not work and the mgr said they have never had them returned before and could not believe that both controllers did not work. So they make me wait about 25 minutes (with 4 kids in tow) while they hook up a PS2 to a TV and try them out themselves only to tell me that "yep they dont work". And finally I got tired of arguing with them and just took the in store credit but I will never buy any electronics from them again. BEWARE OF TRU - they do not stand behind their products.

Whats nice about Target (and I think Meijer) is they can scan your credit card and find your receipt so I almost always use my CC at those places just in case I would lose a receipt.
