There are tons of threads getting adrs reservations for restaurants in wdw parks and onsite resorts. --but I don't see such treads for universal....do we have to call way ahead to reserve dining like Disney?

I don,t know the answer but I made reservations at Emerils by Google and then through Open Table system. BUT it was one of the worse expensive meals I have ever gotten robbed for......stay away is all I can offer.:)

Look at the top of the page. There is a sticky with info. My understanding is no need to make reservations way in advance. I hope that is true as I hope to eat at Mythos but can't pick a night. My ticker tells me that I may want to pick a time soon. :goodvibes

you can make a ressie on the UO website.
pull up the menus for the parks and there is a link to make ressies for the restaurants.

opentable is another option.

i usually make my ressies the day of i plan to go.
the kiosk in city walk is where i make my ressies.

i go in october and the crowds are lower then compared to the summer.

Universal does not require the advanced ressies like WDW does..You CAN make them if you choose to.However, NOt all restaurants open up ressies at the same time. Some dining is 90 days, some 60 days, some 30 days and Bubba Gumps on Citywalk doesnt take any...Themepark eateries like Mythos takes pretty far in advance. You can make ressies at Opentable.com
I usually make all dining simply because I hate waiting and I like knowing I have them.Actually came in handy for Mythos last Jan when the waits for a table were about an hour long at lunch time..

We always try to eat at off times like lunch at 11-11:30 no later than 12. Then dinner around 4-6 depending on park closure. We always have no problem with only a minimal wait.

Depending on when you go you may or may not need to bother with reservations. We don't go in peak times and have never made a reservation.

As far as picking a "night" to eat at Mythos.....be advised that Mythos is not always open for dinner. If the parks are not open late Mythos usually closes around 3 PM. Just go for lunch in that case since the menu is the same.
