Restaurants you did not like

I would have to agree with the poster who said that we don't go to WDW expecting gourmet meals - it is, after all, a bunch of theme parks.

That said - in general the restaurants at Disney Studios have no redeeming qualities at all. We always struggle if we are at that park at meal times. The Brown Derby is good, but way too expensive (the Cobb salad is tasty but is like mush - I think they must put it in a blender before they serve it). We usually end up at Toy Story Pizza Planet simply because it is the least disgusting option.

I used to hate Biergarten in the Germany pavilion at Epcot. The first time we ate there I burped vinegar for the next two days. But we went there last time because my dad loves German food. It wasn't as vinegary this time.

I liked Le Cellier but we had HORRIBLE service. The restaurant wasn't even half full and it literally took my husband and I almost two and half hours to finish our meal. We waited over 30 minutes for the waiter to bring our cokes to us. Everyone in the restaurant was annoyed - there were waiters and waitresses everywhere but they were all just standing around taking to each other. I was willing to give it another shot but my husband was so mad that he refuses to ever return.

I don't think the food at San Angel Grill is anything like actual Mexican food but my husband likes it (he's not a very adventurous eater) and the atmosphere is nice so I agree to go there all the time. If you want to eat in Morocco I would go to the counter service Tangeriene Cafe instead of Marrakesh. The food at Marrakesh was just OK but was ridiculously expensive. The food at Tangeriene Cafe is really good and a pretty good deal as far as counter service goes.

Wow-so much negativity! Seriously, though, I have to agree with the PPs who have said you can't rely on others' opinions. Obviously, not everyone is going to have the same tastes. But, you can get ideas of which places have had bad service, cold meals, etc., although those things also could be flukes. A lot of the restaurants I'm reading about people dislike, we really enjoy!:lovestruc So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think its great to get others' opinions so at least you have a good idea of what to expect, but if there is somewhere you would like to eat, try it for yourself.

Respectfully- I understand what you're saying, but I kind of have to disagree. It may be a fluke that you got a cold dish or bad service - but thirty or forty people? That's not much of a fluke, even with the thousands of meals each restaurant serves. In addition to which, many PP's have stated that they gave these restaurants multiple tries, and had the same experience. With some of them (I'm talking about you, ABC Commissary!;)), it almost sounds like fluke when you do get a good meal!

The only restaurant that I can say that I did NOT like and will not return is ABC Commisary. We've given it 3 tries and I won't try a 4th!!! :sad2:

our 1st night we ate at Chef Mickey's...overall is was good...especially the mashed potatoes...yum...atmosphere is loud, but the kids enjoyed it...

(everyplace we ate at that had mac-n-cheese for the kids they hated it...i have to agree with them it was bland...)

biergarten...was o.k....the atmosphere was great...the entertain was was very fun...dh liked the beer...so we will try again in september...

rose & crown...food was great...great service...we were out on the terrance by the water and it was cold...other than that is was excellent....dh liked the beer...its all about the beer...:lmao:

le cellier...was flipping awesome...i had the filet mingon...superb...we will be going back in september...oh and the cheese soup...yum oh!!

coral reef...was o.k...i wasn't too impressed other than the aquarium view...

yak and yeti...was good...dh didn't like it...

Well, I've already said the two I didn't like. But, I wanted to add that we aren't "foodies" and will pretty much eat anything that will fill us up and tastes semi-decent. There were a lot of restaurants that I could say were just "okay" but I didn't.

Last December my DH and I celebrated our anniversary and enjoyed a lot of great meals. One restaurant we usually enjoy is le cellier, but this time it was not good. The waitress was rude, there was a women inside who was yelling at the waitresses to hurry. We felt rushed and because this women kept walking by our table it made us feel very uncomfortable. The food was not up to its standard. We use to make this a must each trip, but it is now off our list.

I wish it was as good as taco bell! Ha! I would be all over it. It's not, but it does have that fabulous location! Good margerittas as well. My least favorite restaurant ANYWHERE as far as food quality is conerned is Tony's at MK.
Gross!

OMG I totally agree. As soon as people say that they LOVE Tony's, I immediately discount their review and move on. That place is one step away from a microwaved meal!

Mad Hatterd, that's some meticulous research you did there!

I'm wondering, though, if when you have a restaurant like Boma that has 12 negatives, but reading other threads is consistently ends up on people's favorite's lists - how do you balance the good with the bad?

I also think another factor is that you might have an excellent restaurant, but the actual "tastes" of the food don't appeal to as many people. Picking on Boma again, but the food may be excellently prepared, but if it doesn't make your mouth happy, it doesn't matter if the food is prepared correctly or not. They say DW makes an incredible coconut pie, but I'll never know, because coconut in any form brings a sure-fire gag reflex from me.

Ees a quandary. Other than crawling in someone's mouth and hijacking their taste buds, you just have to try something and then form your own opinion.

But ... just to negate my point ... when the ABC Commissary gets routinely slammed, and I can't find a lot positive posted about it, then I tend to pay attention (it's the one place in WDW where I had a "challenging" meal, and I'm not in much of a hurry to go back.)

I responded to this early on when it was first posted and have been reading the new additions.

It is just like resorts -- everyone has their own tastes, expectations, etc. Places we hated and will never go back to again -- Whispering Canyon Cafe, Hollywood & Vine -- people love on here; places we love -- Plaza, Biergarten, Mama Melrose -- people hate on here!

We continue to read the reviews. And we've made some great choices based on reviews that were good--LeCellier, Yak & Yeti and we've made some bad choices based on reviews that were good--but we didn't like (WCC, H&V, Boatwright's).

A good reason if the menu appeals to you to try it once yourself and make up your own mind.

Our worst meals were at Flame Tree BBQ at AK, food was nt even edible & Chef Mickeys. This was 1 of the places i was most looking forward to & left there wishing we had nt of wasted our money. Bad food, bad service, will def not be returning :sad2:

Still we ate in plenty of other Disney restaurants & could nt fault the other meals we had

There are many WDW restaurants we have not tried. Of those we have tried, 50s Prime Time is the one MUST DO each trip.

The only restaurant we absolutely will NOT return to is Pinocchio Village Haus. We were underwhelmed by the poor selection and quality of the food there. We do enjoy Cosmic Rays and Pecos Bills. We plan to try Columbia Harbor House this trip. We are not TS snobs. We just did not like PVH at all. We only tried it because of the location and because I did not (at the time) know where CHH was. That error has been corrected.
