Restaurant Suggestions at HHI

Another vote here for Old Fort Pub-- we honeymooned at HHI and it was by far the most romantic setting I've ever experienced. Even if you don't eat there, you may want to try dessert and coffee at sunset. It is unbelievable.

I haven't seen a menu of the web for them. Another you might add is AQUA. I came across this looking for the menu.

Thanks for trying to find the menu, Dean. Maybe I was dreaming! :confused3 I could have sworn I looked at a menu for it and it looked just like what we would want. Maybe I'll call them and see.

I know if you just search for "Sunset Grill" you'll find a number of them in different places. I'd be surprised if you found this one other than on a private site because they essentially never advertise. Call them and ask they email or fax one to you.

I mentioned your post to DH and he suggested "It's Greek to Me". It's near Wexford Village. Also, the same owners had a more formal resturant that was open in the evening, but I can't find my HHI resturant guide right now to find out if it's still open or what the name is.

Cafe at Wexford?

Sunset Grille is also one of my favorites.

It is a very small room so be sure and make reservations. The food was excellent on each occasion we've been there. They've always had a nice steak on the menu.

It's me again. Less than a month to go and I still don't have a clue where we will be eating on our 20th anniversary. The planner is me is about to lose it!!! I had Sunset Grille fax their menu to me. It sounds like a great place, but the menu is very limited. They also recommended us NOT to come since my DH has shellfish allergies.

After doing some more searching, I came across the Chart House (which I think replaced Charley's Crab). Has anyone eaten here? It looks like the menu has a lot of variety. I was especially wondering about the atmosphere. I really want a sunset view, maybe even outside dining if the weather is nice. Can anyone give me any advice on this place???

Our favorite by far is Truffles! They do have seafood, but they have plenty of other options. We agreed as a family that we would travel to HHI just for this restaurant, even if we weren't staying there. We have eaten there two years in a row and loved it. Haven't tried the "non-seafood" options, other than my DS who had the pasta with chicken/spinach/sundried tomatoes. He loved that. I can say that the Salmon-with a wonderful BBQ sauce, and the crab cakes are awesome!

At HH right now, there are a ton of great choices. Our current fav is Alligator Grll which is upscale enough for most for such an event but Alexander's, Redfish and many others would be there as well.

I do agreee that the menu looks great! I'm just worried about the look of the atmosphere. The picture on their website makes it look very "fancy." My husband and I are more into casual; we want a relaxed atmosphere somewhere overlooking water. What kind of dress is recommended for Truffles?

We haven't been to Truffles as of yet but menu does seem to have very interesting selectons. Try this link, 2 locations on island at Pope Ave. & Sea Pines

I'm enjoying reading this thread, we always have our :dance3: along so we usually choose more family type places to dine on HHI but on our trip in August DH & I will hopefully get in a long overdue romantic dinner.

One other restaurant you may want to look into that I recently read good review about here on the DIS is Marley's Island Grill.

Best wishes planning & hope you'll post back where you go and how you liked it :goodvibes

Some of the best pizza I've ever eaten is from Giuseppi's, right near the resort in the shopping center behind Fudrucker's.

I agree! In fact, we have this planned for one night. I know I did say we like casual, but I think this may be a little too casual for a 20th anniversary dinner. LOL!

Anyone have any experience with the Chart House? How about anyone who ate at Charley's Crab (the location of the new Chart House) and can tell me about the water view?

For some reason, I thought I was replying to a different thread - one about an 8 year old's birthday. As to your question, has anyone mentioned the Old Oyster Factory? We've been there twice, and enjoyed it both times.

I wore a sundress..very casual and sandals, my DH & two teenage DS wore shorts & polo shirts. I don't consider it fancy. Hope that helps. It isn't on the water (ocean), but the tables & booths in the back overlook a small pond. We always ask for a booth, more intimate than a table to me.

True, but the cross contamination is much more likely. We don't even go to our local Red Lobster. That's why I need suggestions of restaurants that aren't mostly seafood. That's a little harder in Hilton Head, I know.

Gee, seems like you are very limited as to where you may feel safe dining. Probably best to call any of the places that look like you might be interested in trying and ask to speak to the chef regarding your allergy concerns. I'm sure they will be willing to let you know if they can work with you or if you should look elsewhere for dining options.

Hope you have a wonderful meal wherever you :cake: celebrate!

Too funny!!!! I was thinking you were making fun of me since I keep stressing how casual I like things! :rotfl:

I've heard the Old Oyster Factory is good, but since my husband has shellfish allergies, we have to stay away. Thanks for replying though.

Thanks for the advice. This sounds like the type of clothes we want to wear. I may wear a sundress or capris, and my husband will want to wear khaki shorts and a polo shirt. It's down to two places: Truffles Grille or the Chart House. I'm just waiting to see if anyone has eaten at the Chart House.

I AM very limited, and it kills me! Our favorite restaurant used to be Red Lobster. Then in his early-30's we went to the Poconos Mts. and ate at a seafood restaurant. We got back to the hotel, and he started breaking out in hives between his fingers and toes. Within 5 minutes, he was covered in hives from head to toe and was projectile vomiting  (sorry for being gross). I had to rush him to the local hospital. He has not had that bad of a reaction since, but he's had a couple of little ones (hives on his neck) from cross-contamination. I would love it if we could just go to any restaurant while at HHI and enjoy the seafood. I sometimes feel bad eating it in front of him :guilty: but I'm on the other end too. I can't eat pit fruits, and my DS12 LOVES any kind of fruit and is always eating them in front of me. It's just something you have to live with.

I am just being overly cautious in this situation because I would hate to end up at the hospital on our 20th anniversary! On our 15th, we took a Disney cruise, and I was so motion sick I couldn't lift my head without throwing up!

I'm sure he's since been allergy tested and carries an epi pen, it sounds like you are very on top of this situation. We know food allergies scenario very well in our family and it is always wise to be as vigilant & prepared as possible; speaking to chef in advance is often very helpful and depending upon the restaurant they can arrange for special handling and preparation of foods with advance notice.

Good luck :goodvibes
