Restaurant Reservations Questions

Do the restaurants at Universal need reservations similar to wdw or can you just walk in and be seated?

Which are the best in park restaurants?

If you’re going at peak holiday times reservations are always recommended. Otherwise not.

We’ve never made a reservation for the parks or Citywalk in 10 years.

We were there two weeks ago and made lunch reservations for Mythos at IOA and Finnegan's at Universal. Wouldn't have needed the Mythos reservation as there were some empty seats, but Finnegan's had people waiting as we were leaving. They were pretty busy. We enjoyed both restaurants.

At City Walk, we never made a reservation but did encounter brief waits at Cowfish and Antojitos. If you're staying onsite, you can take advantage of priority seating at these. Surprisingly, no wait at Toothsome or NBC Sports.

For all these, we dined at prime meal times - 12pm for lunch and around 6-6:30pm for dinner at City Walk, also near park closing time for Universal.

At Cowfish, you can use their app to get on the wait list within a half mile radius. Many of the restaurants don't seem to take reservations. If I can, I do, because I am anal that way and am used to going to WDW. We did successfully do the priority seating at Margaritaville in July. We haven't used it otherwise.

I second this! I always heard that you don't really need reservations, but when we were there over Spring Break 3 years ago my family got frustrated on the evenings we didn't make reservations (about half). there were very long waits (45-90 minutes) at every sit-down restaurant in Citywalk. Obviously if we had eaten at an "off-time" we wouldn't have run into this. Still, I was much happier the evenings we had reservations. You don't have to do it very far in advance (1-2 weeks or so).

We've made reservations for Mythos for lunch that same morning. We were seated with almost no wait while walk ins were told 50-60 minutes. You can make reservations right on the Universal app on your phone.

The Open Table website/ app offers reservations to some CityWalk restaurants. Very handy.
