On the day that we arrive in Disney, my daughter will be having her 5th birthday! Is there a better gift than to turn five is Disney World???? Anyway, I am sure we will be celebrating ALL WEEK LONG, but two of my reservations stand out; Akerhaus in Norway and Cinderella's Royal Castle...both are princess dinners, as I am sure you are aware. If I notify them when I get there, will they sing happy birthday to my daughter and maybe make a little fuss at the table and/or stick a candle in her dessert, or must I order a cake from disney for that?

It is my understanding that CRT will give a cupcake. I don't know that they will sing. I don't know what Akershus will do. 50's Prime Time is a fun place that will put a candle in her dessert and they ask the people around you to sing Happy Birthday with them since everyone there is family.

I have never seen them sing like at someplaces outside.....
If she wears her badge she should get some Happy Birthdays and maybe a free dessert but do not count on the free dessert. If you want something special call and aks what can be done--if you have a dollar amount in mind ask in that range--- Disney will make it as $$$$$$$pecial as you want :lmao:
Most CM's will wish her a Happy Birthday for free and that is the only thing you should expect.... you may get some other things but do not expect it with paying...

. . . If I notify them when I get there, will they sing happy birthday to my daughter and maybe make a little fuss at the table . . .

. . . Usually not.
. . . Other than to say happy birthday.
. . . Do not look for singing or anything like that.
. . . There are too many special occassions to satify them all.
. . . So, they celebrate en-mass or not at all.
. . . If you want soemthing special, pay for it.

. . . As for special things,

For birthdays, anniversies, and other celebrations,
no restaurant is that much better than another restaurant.

1) Acknowledgment is a matter of the CM's personal initiative.
2) It also depends upon how much they like you as a guest.
3) CM's can do a lot, or they can do nothing at all.
. . . they are under no obligation to give goodies or even acknowledge, or
. . . they can go way overboard and give lots of gifts to a guest
4) The CM's have a lot of leeway of things to do or not do for you.
5) Have your anniversary-birthday-celebration noted on the ressie and ADR's.
6) Some of the things a CM can do for free are
. . . decorate table with Mickey confetti
. . . best table location
. . . special personalized menu
. . . character-autographed birthday cards
. . . balloons
. . . wine or champagne or Shirley Temples
. . . appetizers or desserts
. . . cakes
. . . cupcake with candle (almost always available for the asking)
. . . placemats autographed by characters
7) If there are multiple celebrations for people during a trip
. . . do not do separate celebrations or tables
. . . one person may get an enthusiastic CM, and get lots of goodies
. . . one person may get a lazy CM and get nothing

Thank you! I got married in Disney in 2001, so I know if you want something you have to pay for it! Lol

I am really not looking for anything for free, just her dessert with a candle and maybe to sing happy birthday, even if it was a general singing to all birthdays, or maybe just some ooooos and ahhhhhs at our table.....Btw, I am new to this site, what is a CM?

Mom Alissa, we have reservations for 50's prime time cafe, so I will def keep what u said in mind, thanks!

If your looking for something special for your daughter's birthday i would go to crystal palace. They have a birthday parade, and what 5 year old doesn't like pooh and his friends? also the food is great :)

Reading a couple of posts, they are referring to a buffet. is Akerhaus a buffet or a sit down dinner, which Is what I thought.

Akershus is part buffet, the appetizeer, and half sit down meal as you get to order your main course from the menu.

The most we had for any birthday was a cupcake but even that doesn't happen in all restaurants. It depends a lot on your waiter and how busy they are. Also at some restaurants we had confetti on the table.

We got cupcakes for sure at Akershus, CRT, Ohana, Chef Mickey, Garden Grill but nothing at Crystal Palace and Cape May out of the character meals we were celebrating and Crystal Palace was on their actual b-day. Never heard anyone singing happy birthday.

If I may suggest, I would order a chocolate slipper at CRT. It's a chocoalte slipper filled with chocolate mouse sitting on a sponge cake and served with berries. It was $12.50 plus tax and tip which came to about $15-16. Check out the cake thread for a picture. I ordered some for my 4yo and the ywere not able to eat half of it so daddy and I got to have some too. Well worth the money IMO just to see their face light up when they see it coming and notice that no one else has one LOL You can ask them to write with chocolate around the plate Happy 5th Birthday XXX

I went back to get a link to the slipper. Very cute and actually big. The cake is about 4X4

We just had breakfast at Akershus on July 10. We were celebrating my birthday (July 8), and my daughter's birthday (July 16). Our CM brought us each a birthday cupcake with a candle and celebration cards signed by all 5 of the princesses at the breakfast. It was very nice.

Thanks for the clarification (The Rusty Scupper) Also, 3pletprincesses, I think I know the slipper that you are talking about...I actually had that at my wedding in addition to the cake...It was delicious and very cute! I just might do that! And, you're right, who wouldn't want a chocolate Cinderella slipper! I was also looking around and found the "Mini Suprise Cake"; you can order a princess surprise cake or pirate... It is very cute and I think someone said it was about 15.oo or something like that....I am going to have to call and see about everything! So excited for her!!!!!! (I actually think I am more excited than she is at this point! lol)

when we were at mk in may my dad was celebrating his birthday (he was clueless regarding how it is when you wear a bday button at wdw :lmao:) we quietly told the cm at cbj that it was his bday and they sang to him before the show started. also if you happen to take your daughter to cosmic rays, if they spot her button the people behind the counter (especially in the evening) tend to sing. last fall a cm noticed my sisters pin while we were in the big long store on main st in mk (the one left side of street facing castle) and did an announcement and had the people (cm's and customers) sing to her...:scared1: totally shocked my sister. it was fun.

We will be in the world next week celebrating my dd graduation from high school (this is her senior trip since I was being a mean mom and wouldn't let her go to the beach with friends!!) Anyway I am going to call the cake hotline and have a special cake sent to our table for dinner.
