Resorts Without Catwalks

Poly is a deluxe that has EXTERIOR doors... you have to walk outside to get to the long houses.

By that logic so is most of the Grand Floridian, you have to walk outside to get to most of GFs buildings. Hmm, I think we should stick to exterior doors meaning guest room doors opening to the outside instead of a corridor. All deluxe hotel rooms open to a corridor and are Interior doors including the Poly and GF.

I didn't expect more replies while I was at work!

So my gramma emailed me back and said she would like to stay at the Boardwalk. That resort looks absolutely gorgeous! She then tells me that I can pick whichever hotel I want as long as it's a "regular" hotel. My gramma is killing me. I told her that the Boardwalk would be fine and that I was looking at the Contemporary because the monorail goes right through it and it goes to the parks I want to go to the most, MK and Epcot. I also have reservations at the California Grill for Wishes so we can go straight to our room afterward and not have to hop on a bus.

I would love to stay at the Swan and Dolphin, but unfortunately the PIN I have doesn't work for those and I want to stay at a resort where I can do EMH. Though Swan and Dolphin would be at the top of my list price-wise if the PIN worked for them. I will wait for my Gramma's response about the Contemporary.

Regarding why she doesn't want one with a catwalk, I honestly don't know and I don't want to pry, even if she is my gramma. If she feels better staying at a deluxe resort, then that is fine with me. I don't want this whole trip to be about me and what I want. I want it to be about us and if that means staying at a deluxe resort, then so be it. It's easier for me to afford with it being split between the two of us and since my nana (Mum's mom) might be coming along, it will be split three ways.

if grandma said she wants to stay at the boardwalk and you are trying to please her, stay at the boardwalk. It is really a beautiful resort! We always stay on the monorail loop because the kids love it. last year we went over to BWI for dinner and were blown away by the wonderful atmosphere. No question, no kids with you, stay at BWI.

If she does not want to stay at the Contemporary, it will be BWI. That was my second choice. I just gave her my suggestion because she wants me to choose, but if she doesn't want to stay there, then I will gladly settle for BWI. I am very grateful that I am able to stay at deluxe level and she is willing to pay for it (even though I won't let her). :) It's going to be hard to please me when I want to please her and vise versa. :lmao:

@poohgirl6: That's pretty funny. :rotfl:

Edit: So she's ok with CR so I'm hoping it has rooms available when I call tomorrow morning about switching from ASSports to CR. If not, it will be BWI. Crossing my fingers!

FWIW, there are discounts for Swan and Dolphin and they get to participate in all WDW stuff (EMH, package delivery) just not Dining plan if that makes a difference. I can'te remember if I stated this earlier (going nuts here) but I booked a night at the Swan for $195 before our cruise in April when the cheapest BW area room I could get was $425 for the Beach club. They also give discounts for teachers and nurses.

I didn't know you could do EMH for Swan and Dolphin! I am still going with what my gramma and I were wanting to stay at. I was fortunate enough to change my reservation to BWI - Water View because that was cheapest room available with my PIN. Even though it expired, they worked some magic and made it happen! The Contemporary is available May 9th - 12th, but not 13th. I was so bummed! I will keep calling back because the price for BWI scares me.

Was Contemporary not available at all on the 13th or just not with the PIN code? If there are rooms availabe, but not rooms with the PIN code, you could book a split reservation. Book the 9th-12th with the PIN and have a separate reservation for the 13th at rack rate.

It is not available with the PIN on the 13th, which is our check out date. There are only Garden Wing Rooms and Club Level 2 bedroom suites available, but I want to be in the tower so we can just walk to the monorail from our room instead of walking to the towers from the Garden Wing. I would rather not have to pay rack rate for just the one night since it is our last night there, plus I don't want to have to switch rooms when we are leaving the next morning.

I think I will just wait, but I sincerely appreciate the suggestion! :)

I think your Grandmother would be extremely happy at Boardwalk!

That is the one she suggested to me and I have that booked right now with a water view. I would prefer CR because of the convenience of the monorail (Pretty sure we are only going to MK and Epcot) and cost, but I won't be disappointed with BWI if the 13th is not available because it looks absolutely gorgeous. Does it get noisy at night when people are walking outside? That's my biggest concern.

The BWI is amazing! I've stayed there twice, only on the villa side. It's second only to the BC/YC as my favorite resort. If you are spending a lot of time in Epcot, its location can't be beat! It's an easy, peaceful walk to the International Gateway of Epcot - takes about 15-20 minutes at a very leisurely pace. There is also a boat available if you don't want to walk.

The bus does take longer to get to MK than the monorail at the CR would, but it isn't bad.

The Boardwalk and across the lake at BC/YC have fabulous dining choices. Plus, you're only a quick stroll away from Epcot's dining as well.

Where ever you end up, it'll be fabulous! Enjoy this special trip with your gramma. :goodvibes

That sounds wonderful! I'm really excited! This is my second trip to Disney World and my first time staying at a deluxe resort so I'm excited and nervous! I'm glad that we could just walk to Epcot. Is it possible to take the monorail from Epcot to MK? I think it would be best if we hopped on the monorail at Epcot and went to MK from there. And when does it start running? Also, where are the stops located? Thanks!

The entrance you'd use to get into Epcot is at the back of the park, ie, you'd have to walk all the way to the front of Epcot to catch the monorail. Faster (and probably easier on grandma) to use the bus.

Hey, with all the reports of monorails breaking down lately, you might be better off with that anyway! :thumbsup2

The entrance to Epcot you'll be using from the Boardwalk is located at the back of the park - the International Gateway between France and England. It's possible to walk from there to the monorail station at the front of the park, but it's a walk of about a mile, and you would need to change at the TTC for the MK monorail. It would also require you to use a park admission to enter Epcot, so if you don't have park hopper passes, you wouldn't be able to get into MK.

Much, much easier to take the bus from the Boardwalk to MK. :)

I'm not doing park hoppers because we are only going to be there for 4 days and I only want to go to MK and Epcot so it is not worth it. Gramma doesn't do thrill rides so no MGM. It sounds like the bus will be better.

If there are reports of the monorail breaking down, then it sounds like it is a good thing we are not staying at the Contemporary. Though we will probably use it to go to the Contemporary for our CG reservation.

I do wanna ride the TRONorail. It looks so cool! Thanks for the tip! I only did a couple of rides at Epcot back in 2000 because my siblings and I wanted to go back to MK so we didn't get to experience the rest of it. :rotfl:

We actually prefer the Wilderness Lodge for this exact reason! :thumbsup2 Its all inside except the balcony's and it is just a boat ride over to the MK!:thumbsup2
