Resorts Without Catwalks

I would like to know which resorts don't have a catwalk, which from the pictures I've been looking at, would be very few that don't. My grandma does not want to stay at a resort with a catwalk (She told me this after I mentioned staying at ASSports like we did 11 years ago) and just wants to stay at a regular hotel and told me it would be on her. While I am very grateful my grandma is now coming with me on my trip, I would hate for her to pay for the hotel even with the PIN I have.

So what are my choices? There are probably very few choices, but my grandma would like to stay on-site. Are the ones that don't have catwalks only a few of the deluxe and deluxe villas?

Thanks!

I assume you mean you want interior doors?

That would be ALL deluxe resorts and ALL deluxe villa resorts.

All moderates and values have exterior room doors.

I'm assuming the same. You mean you don't want a property with exterior doors. Then you have to book a deluxe. Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge are the two least expensive of the deluxe resorts if you are concerned about price.

That's exactly what she means. I was confused at first, but my boyfriend explained it to me when I told him about it. So no hotels with exterior room doors.

I have a lot of hotels to choose from if they are all the deluxe and deluxe villas. What would you recommend? I've always wanted to stay at the Contemporary because the monorail that goes through it. It looks like I won't be staying at the cheapest because I don't want to go to AK, and AKL is far from where I want to be, but WL might be ok because it's by MK and Epcot.

I'm thinking we are going to be at MK and Epcot the most (We are only going to be there from the 9th to the 13th of May) because I don't think my grandma would do thrill rides at MGM, which would be the only reason I go there, and I don't want to go to AK. lol Would the ones that are monorail resorts be best since they go to both MK and Epcot?

Do you know the reason she doesn't want that type of hotel walkway? Is it the factor of being outside, or is it a vertigo thing? If the latter, then she might not like the Contemporary, since the room corridors open to the lobby. The same is true with certain rooms in the Wilderness Lodge. There may be others, but those are the ones I know for sure.

I think it's because my grandma is spoiled. :rotfl: It might be because it is outside, but I do not know for sure. She told me she will take a look online and check out the resorts. I want to suggest some to her, which is why I am asking, but I almost don't want to because I don't want it to feel like I'm asking her to pay a lot of money for the super fancy dancy hotels. I will see what she comes up with. I will be happy no matter what because I will be with her and it will be a lot of fun.

I may be dreaming, but at SSR, there were places after you exited your room, where there were openings along the walkway you could see out to the ground below.

It is more enclosed than say POR or POFQ, but still if someone is really nervous about heights, it may bother them.

I don't think it's a height thing, but I could be wrong. I think she is just used to being in a regular hotel (i.e. Hyatt, Hilton, etc.) and would prefer a more enclosed/peaceful/high-end hotel, but I could be wrong about that as well. I'm just going to let her pick the hotel because she knows what she wants and I personally don't care as much because I will be at Disney World having a wonderful time with my grandma! As long as I help pay for the hotel of course because I will not let her pay for it all. Though going from a value to a deluxe will be very interesting!

But I definitely would like suggestions so if she isn't sure about some hotels or which one to pick if she's stuck between a few, I could give her some suggestions. :)

look into the yacht club! the pool is awesome (they also have great club level!!) and it's a short walk right into EPCOT!! it's beautiful there and may be just the "feel" she's looking for!!

If she's "spoiled" ;) ;) she'd probably like the gingerbread cottage looking resorts like Grand Floridian, Boardwalk Inn, Yacht Club and Beach Club. All are luxurious, old time fancy beachside looking resorts. We've stayed at the GF and YC and love both. I don't think you could go wrong with any of those four :)

Thank you for the suggestions! I was looking at the resorts that have been suggested and they are absolutely beautiful! They are pricey, but beautiful! I'm still hoping she will pick the Contemporary, but I know I won't be disappointed if it's any of the others. Thanks!

I think she is just used to being in a regular hotel (i.e. Hyatt, Hilton, etc.) and would prefer a more enclosed/peaceful/high-end hotel,

If that's the case, she'll probably be happier with the Swan or Dolphin, because what she'll get for her money will be more in line with what she expects. Disney deluxe can create false expectations for people who expect it to be on par with Hyatts or Hiltons of the same price.

But of course the MK monorail resorts would be better from a transportation perspective. All the MK resorts are beautiful -- and, really, so are all the Disney deluxe resorts, from a resort perspective. So it depends on whether she's more about the resort of the room, I'd say. The Swan or the Dolphin would feel more familiar from a room perspective but the Disney ones have the better fantasy themes. :)

Poly is a deluxe that has EXTERIOR doors... you have to walk outside to get to the long houses.

But the doors to the rooms are along an inside corridor.

I realize that, but I was under the impression the grandmother wanted a totally enclosed resort, not a partially enclosed one like Poly. I thought she wanted a resort, where, if it was pouring rain, she could go from her room to the food court and grab a cup of coffee without getting drenched. :goodvibes

The Swan/Dolphin would also be a cheaper option than going Disney deluxe...and is walking distance to Epcot. Its a Westin (Starwood Resort.) You just don't have the ability to do magical express or the dining plan.

If gma is spoiled, I'd think a deluxe is the way to go anyway- I don't think of values or mods as a fit for someone who is spoiled...maybe thats why I don't like them ;)

I second the YC suggestion, although I'm mostly just subscribing to see what you decide. ;)

I think you need to come right out and as k grandma WHY no catwalks? If it is a height issue/ not wanting to walk beside a railing (which is the first thing that occurred to me) then you have a whole different issue than if it is that she does not want an outside doorway.

If it is a height issue, even CR tower, WL and maybe AKL would not be good. (You could do Garden Wing CR) If this is the issue, then she could still stay at Mods or Values if you request first floor and make a big issue of someone having Vertigo on the ressie.

If it is exterior doors, then things change. But you could tell her that even with exterior doors, WDW is a lot safer than a lot of places. It is not like exterior doors on some road side motel. There is a lot of security and 'nice folks' around.

The title of this thread made me think of that song, "I'm too sexy for my clothes......on the catwalk...." Maybe Grandma's too sexy for the catwalk :rotfl2:

Sorry, OP...that's just what popped into my head. Have a great time with your grandma, wherever you stay :thumbsup2
