Resort rates are kinda ridiculous

There's still a lot of pent up demand but people seem to be dropping deluxe as a choice. I booked thinking there would be discounts and the fact that there won't be is definitely disappointing. My future planning will involve booking what is discounted at deluxe, or choosing a mod.

Listening to DisUnplugged, I heard that Disney considered overcrowding was their biggest problem before covid and pricing out of the market, large groups of people, seems like their solution going forward. Goodbye middle and lower class families I guess.

FWIW I'm with you. The prices are insane. I love staying on site - the bubble, not having to drive on vacation, the theming etc. - but there's a limit somewhere and they might have hit it with me.

Right now I am waiting to see what happens with Covid and for my son to get vaccinated (he turns 12 next year, so by then the latest.) By then, we'll all know exactly what the DME alternatives are and if they are unattractive then I am 99% going offsite. I've done it before many times anyway. I was willing to splurge a bit for this one since we haven't been since early 2019 but not at these absurd numbers.

I'm not sure if it's the new normal, but people have so much vacation time and and money saved up from the past year or two that everyone is booking. I know many international visitors have moved their trips multiple times and are scheduled for next Spring.

Someone else may have mentioned it but Disney does adjust rates with demand. So chances are the resorts have booked a lot of rooms next year already, so prices have gone up.

Yeah it's pretty crazy. We have a trip booked at Pop the first week of September and it's $150-160 a night for the room. Family wants to go the week leading up to Christmas, same room at Pop - $290. I keep hoping for a fall discount to drop and it may happen with the new mask restrictions, but not holding my breath.

That is a nice perk, but unfortunately we have no Costco's in our area.
Someone said the same thing on a car rental thread, and I commented that it should be possible to join online and order online. The main reason I keep my Costco membership is rental cars and travel. (Just a random thought for anyone reading this thread.)

We booked a deluxe resort for the first time...but went for Garden Wing of Contemporary as the tower was quite a bit more. For us, this is a splurge but wanted a monorail resort plus walking distance to MK. But it was definitely more than we would typically pay.

Can only imagine the cost of the new Star Wars resort!

New Star Wars resort is fully immersed and I think the limit is 2 days? Probably because thats all the normal person would be able to afford lol

You would think this is the Four Seasons 😂 and many of these deluxe rooms don't justify the price as far as theming - you're paying to be close to parks.

You can get the Waldorf and Four Seasons for less than the cost of Pop Century as blind bookings through Hotwire. We half considered it for our trip in a few weeks, but I want to use Magical Express while it exists.

We agree prices are ridiculous ! We had AKL
Club booked for two nights with military rate.
We switch to the Yacht Club. AKL Club for two nights with military discount was $2500 ish.
Yacht Club with military discount water view
for two nights $450. Yes we know AKL is club level, cast members services, food and drink
but what makes it that so expensive ?
Years past we paid $ 3,000 for week. $2,050 we will keep for other things to do.

Might be worth buying DVC if you enjoy returning to CL at AKL frequently. Club Level starts around 20 points per night. Points rent for ~$20 a point so $400 and up a night but… really only owners get a chance at availability. These are very high demand rooms for DVC.

For a spoof I joked with DH about a 6 night stay AKV Studio from Dec 3-9 2022 with Club Level access for $1,200 complete including all taxes, fees, parking and up to 4 adults. Alternating nights with a Club Level & Value AKV studio gives continuous access to CL since it’s offered on both check in and check out days, but you’d need to move rooms every day. Those 7 days/6 nights would cost 97 points. Ownership is about $12 per point/year between dues and buy-in. So… less than $1200 for 4 people staying at AK all week and using the lounge 😂 Not very convenient but that price is right! I dare somebody to try it lol.

Very interesting concept. We love AKV but have never done Club Level. My philosophy about DVC has always been buy the most cost effective (most of my points are at SSR for this reason) and book at 7 months. So far it's worked for us every time, but then again, we never tried to book any of the ultra popular rooms (CL for example). We just stayed a week each at BWV and BCV in July, both booked at the 7 month mark. Although I've never checked availability at either until booking this last trip, my guess is the availability was due to COVID, since I booked them in December when things were still much more uncertain than they are now.

Anyway, you've given me something to think about. Maybe when the resale market calms down I'll have to look into a few more points, this time at AKV...

Those are the hardest to book room categories in all of DVC. I would never recommend purchasing AKV with the expectation of consistently booking those rooms, especially using the "every other night" approach that you suggest. It's an unrealistic expectation.

Yeah it's pretty crazy. We have a trip booked at Pop the first week of September and it's $150-160 a night for the room. Family wants to go the week leading up to Christmas, same room at Pop - $290. If you're talking about the first week of September for this year they've already had a discount running for a while, it's only 25%, and runs through the end of the month. No discounts after that, and doesn't look like they're going to be plentiful if any after. If you haven't gone to look I would definitely go see if there are any discounts left, if you don't see any then you probably already missed out and all the discounted rooms have been booked up. I have a trip end of August-beginning of September and had an AP discount booked at BWI, and before that had a GP discount at another resort (but have since switched to rack at Poly for a standard room, which is still not horrible for what I would expect a Poly room with no discount, it's a splurge for sure but it's a price I expect for this time of year). Any time leading up to Christmas and right after is going to be insanely expensive, it has always been that way, I always expect to spend several hundred more dollars a night during this time. We were able to get a TPV room at CR with an AP discount this year for a little over $600, but no way I would pay rack for those since they were going for around $1000 a night for christmas week when we were there
