Resort Pool Invasion

In the grand scheme of things, it really isn't a big deal. The reason you get mad is because you assume that they somehow ruin your pool experience. You see a crowded pool and wonder how many should or shouldn't be there. Chances are that your resort is either booked to capacity, like most of the resorts, or you went to the pool simultaneously the same time a lot of your fellow guests did. Say 4 people out of the 200 in that pool are hoppers. Does that in any way affect you? Does it really? Think about that before replying. If 4 people that happen to check-out your pool seriously bother you out of the 200 already there, then you have bigger issues to be concerned about. I'm not letting 4, or 40 pool hoppers ruin my vacation, or make me go tell on someone because they're breaking the rules. I speed on occasion, and don't always stop completely at Stop signs. I guess because I don't follow the rules 100% of the time all the time I must be a bad person and someone should report me to the proper authority. Or, they can just enjoy their vacation and not let the little things bother them. Uncork the butt and chill. You're there to have fun, not get all worked up over a few pool hoppers. If you somehow find out there are 40 or more then maybe it's time to say something, but this is pointless thing to even worry about, because how would you ever know? Relax. Have fun. Go grab a drink or something at the pool-side bar. Life has worse things to get worked-up about. Geeze. ;)

I wouldn't say that I get "really pissed", but it is annoying when you are paying Poly rates and you can't get a chair or table unless you get there at 9:00 AM.

We place values on what bothers us differently. Pool hoppers are the least I can think of while on vacation at Disney, but hey, if that irks you, then there's nothing I can say to change that. Just happy it's very low on my radar. :)

I'm sure there are things that irk you that I would find silly, but I wouldn't tell you to uncork your butt like you told the OP. The OP didn't claim it ruined her vacation, she said it pissed her off. It's a saying, ever hear it before? She wasn't being a drama queen and claiming the world was going to end. She was very simply expressing a thought that went through her mind.

BTW, pool hoppers do invade in large numbers as evidenced by how much the pools clear out when they start checking room keys.

I agree it is annoying and it does rob those that pay for the amenities the luxury of possibly getting a pool that is not crowded at all.

I would not go out of my way to worry about it, however if someone offers up the info, then yes I would let the lifeguard know and let them deal with it. Telling someone else about doing it is kinda asking for it, in my opinion. Almost like, look at me, I did this for free and you have to pay.

I mean seriously why would you tell anyone you did this.:confused3

How rude. What bothers me is people like you thinking that it's okay to just insult people. Do I always follow the rules? No. But when it comes to me enjoying my vacation vs. dealing with rude people that think they can go wherever they want, I will say something. What if people just walked in front of you every time you were in line for a ride? Would you be quiet or would you speak up? I'm thinking you might say something. I'm in customer service and apply Disney philosophy every day. Even when I have to deal with idiots that think screaming and telling me how much money they spend us going to get them further. So have a magical night.

That was rude. Of course, my kid once got attack by another kid for having a big nose and one time it got bitten in a pool near our home. We rarely go visit public pools from now on.

I agree with ya. Just pointing out how silly getting so pissed over FOUR people out of probably 200 is in the grand scheme of being on VACATION. Shouldn't lose sight of that, and yes, every trip there are things that annoy me, but I don't get bent-out-shape, or angry over them. I'm there to enjoy myself, not let the little things ruin it. Perspective is where we disagree, and that's cool. What irks one may or may not irk another. :thumbsup2

I've yet to see that happen in Disney, but I did see a fight break-out during the parade at the Magic Kingdom a few years ago when a guy ran over a child trying to get a picture.

I get your point, but the OP was not freaking out about the situation, she was sharing her annoyance with other Disney lovers and you basically told her she didn't have a right to her feelings. Why do you keep saying she shouldn't let the little things ruin it for her and she shouldn't get bent out of shape? Did she ever, even once, claim she allowed it to ruin her vacation? Nope, she didn't. All she said was that she was so pissed. It is an expression. It doesn't mean she was running around pulling her hair out and weeping. How is making a statement getting "bent-out-of-shape"?

More than anything she was probably shocked that the person admitted this to her and it made her wonder how many others were there doing the same thing and getting the chairs she wanted. I think it is a perfectly natural reaction.

Does it bother me? Yes. Does it bother everybody? No. Should it concern others who it does/does not bother? No.

Now let's all agree that we all have differing opinions and go watch some Lion King. ::yes::

I will say that people were kicked out for pool hopping when we were at the Poly in July. There were no seats or tables at 11am. They started checking room keys and suddenly there were tables and seats!! About 18 people left ( one group was about 10 people). I was watching my boys swim so I was sitting watching them go around. I did notice that a few other groups left before the CM got to them to check keys. So if they were also hopping, that was over 25 people at the pool that weren't staying there. I will say it was nice that people who came down after that could find chairs and tables to sit at by the pool. Did I get bent out of shape-no, but I was glad to see them enforcing rules. :thumbsup2

I just wanted to point something out about the OP. It sounded like they weren't hotel guests. Rather than pool hopping that would be trespassing. Either way I would let a life guard know if it realy is a concern. I'm afraid if this debate gets too heated the tread will get locked.

We had the discussion on pool hopping on the SOG thread. From my experience, those that think "it's no big deal in the grand scheme", etc are those that will do it which is why they think it's not a big deal. Sorry, but I hate it when people say "there are worse things". Of course there are, but that's NOT the point.:confused3

The fact is, those are Disney's rules. If you dont' agree with them, you don't have to, but dont' think you can do whatever the heck you want and it's not going to affect everyone else. The more people do this, the more crowded it is, then Disney will be forced to do something about it and make it more of a hassle for those that are entitled to use the pools. Making people bring all of their resort ID's to the pool, handing out wristbands, etc.

Too many, me, me, me people, knowingly breaking the rules because it's all about them. These threads get "heated" because those that think it's not a big deal dont' always stay nice which is interesting considering the DIS doesn't exactly encourage breaking Disney rules.

I thought that if you stay on Disney property you can visit any Disney Resort pool? We rarely use the pool but when we do we stay on our resort property. Am I wrong or did they change this?

This is so easily fixed, it's a shame WDW doesn't make more of an effort. Even my dinky community pool at home checks quite rigorously to enter.

Nope, you are incorrect. Pool hopping is only allowed at certain pools by DVC members. Resort guests need to stay at their own pool.

Someone else posted this thought and I totally agree: I'm not looking for pool hoppers and its certainly not even on my annoyance radar on a regular basis... But if someone is brazen enough to tell me they're from Orlando and just wanted a swim you can absolutely bet that I'll alert the life guard and start the slow clap as they're escorted out.

I'm willing to bet at some point all pools will have a key entry if they did so at AoA. The value pools are much less of a hot commodity, new or not.

You're on vacation, and there are SOOOO many other things that would be worse, but the few extra people swimming in [your] pool makes you so "pissed"? Try getting robbed TWICE in one week. Once at EPCOT, and once at Pop, then talk about pissed. They're pool hoppers, not terrorists. Unless the pool was so crowded you literally couldn't fit in it, or every chair was taken, it's really not the worse thing that should make you that angry. Relax. Enjoy your vacation. :thumbsup2

With you!

We just got back from BCV and they maintain the access to their pool very well. We used the main pool 7 days out of our trip and every time, without fault, we had to show a room key to get a wristband. And everytime we left the pool area to get drinks, food, go to slide & see that the line it too long and came back, we had to flash our wristband. Why can't all resorts, at least all Deluxes, be that way?

I still remember being shocked when I witnessed this now almost close to 2 years ago. Not only is it ballsy to use a pool for "free", but to also use the transportation for free. People really baffle me.

Still baffles me when people come on to insult others and put them down when they don't have the same mindset...
