Resort Change by Disney

A friend of mine was able to reschedule her 7/10 trip today. They allowed her to shift her arrival date to 7/11 so she wouldn't lose her tickets. They moved her from Sports to a 1 bedroom at OKW at no cost to her.
That's the first I've heard of being able to change dates at no charge. A little consistency sure would be nice.

I’ve seen other reports of being able to drop days at the beginning. Some people have been told no but others have definitely gotten it.

I was curious to see how they were going to handle people at Deluxe resorts since I don't recall anyone posting who was originally booked at a Deluxe and kept their dates. I assumed the changes would be more lateral than an upgrade (e.g. just getting a 1 BR villa at a DVC resort) but I also thought they would apply any discounts on the original room to the rack rate at whatever alternative they offered (not to mention factoring in the loss of CL) and refund any difference. I don't begrudge those who were "upgraded" at no cost, since Disney is only opening DVC and FW, but downgrading someone with no refund is pretty bad.
This is a great point. I have not heard anything from anyone on here that was booked at GF, WL, CR or Poly during these times. ( June 22 on out....) what is happening with them? Are they just being cancelled or are they offering them to be moved?

I’ve read of one CR guest being moved to BLT and another was moved to a Poly studio. Nothing from WL guests (I would guess that BRV would be offered if available, but I have not read of anyone being moved there). It would be hard to move anyone from GF to VGF because it is so small and tends to get booked up by DVC members.

ETA: I’ve also read two reports of YC/BC guests being moved to cabins at FW.

I know Yulilin3 was moved from CR to BLT studio, but that's about it. I'm sure people from Deluxes are getting moved, but I think we tend to hear more from those who got great results and I don't think those of us in the Deluxe category are getting them. You get a few complainers like me ;), but for the most part they're probably saying no thanks and moving on.

We book at YC to have the ability to walk to two parks . Riviera is a definite cancel for us if offered and at this point BC will no feature pool is too. The slim chance we get BW is our only hope to keep our 7/31-8/8 trip . With what people are posting it’s not looking good for us.
Just throwing it out there but Riviera would allow you quick skyliner access to two parks.

Well, I think after some looking at SSR, we are going cancel our trip and reschedule for next summer. Pop Century is our home, and we just aren't feeling SSR. Not being close to any of the parks, the size of the resort, and the additional $9 per day parking over what we would have been paying at Pop. I think this summer will just be Universal, and the we will be back at Disney next July. Good luck to all!!

IF it's open and we've heard nothing on that front. That's the problem- no one knows what ammenities will be open at any resort or what the transportation options are to make an informed decision. Disney knows and Disney should share. For the most part, all we know is SAB won't be open and there will be busses.

So I’ve been reading these threads. The main points seem to be:
- Disney should trickle more information out on what hotels are open and when.
- Disney should clarify the park reservation system, if park hoppers will be honored (and if not refund the hopper additional up charge)
- Not all resort moves have made sense and it seems those who booked under AP discounts hit disproportionately hard followed closely by people who have had to move vacation 2 or more times where they lost FD the second time.
- No one likes that stormalong bay is closed
- Everyone has an opinion on face masks
- Disney is simply overwhelmed trying to maintain their typical level of service We have come to expect.
- No one wants anyone to tell them that they don’t have to go on vacation, how they should spend their money, point out any perceived value, or point out that this will be a“different” kind of trip.

Did I miss anything?

DFB posted pics that skyliner cars are back on the lines. Skyliner is practically designed for social distant transportation. Alternatively how many busses will they need to run to maintain social distancing if the skyliner is not working? Disney knows it. It’s also their newest toy.

It was later learned they were only moved out to do maintenance on the engines. They're back in now. I don't know how many busses, but I don't think Disney will care if transportation is slow. This is a you get what you get deal if you go.

I was booked at Contemporary Garden view 7/10-7/15, free dining. Got moved to BLT theme park view 1 bedroom. (There are 5 of us) no extra cost.

There was a follow up post on the Rumors Board that the gondolas had been placed online in order for maintenance crews to access an area that they were blocking. The Skyliner was not being tested for start up at this time, according to that post.

Did she drop a day? I have heard of people being able to do that and still keep the move for no additional charge.

But, I do think that this may be a sign that moves from closed to open resorts for same price may continue.

I think with those at deluxe resorts there really isn’t anything that can be seen as an upgrade. Again, I think saying Disney is upgrading is a misconception, IMO. They are moving from closed to open vs, canceling,

Your case from CL to non CL is just wrong...that should be credited first and then moved...but, it does seem from the few reports we have had that they are trying to move deluxe to DVC in same areas.

But, other than OKW, RIV or renovated SSR, even 1 bedrooms are going to give you a sleeper sofa as the main 2nd bed,

I am still hoping we hear in the next few days when they may open a few more resorts.

I have heard that someone was successful in being credited the additional parking fee. Double check that you would incur it at SSR. Being a completely DVC resort, and DVC owners not being charged because we pay via MFs, it may not trigger it. I know some things are different for cash stays, but worth a check if that is something that might make a difference.

I agree, Deluxe resorts are definitely not upgrading and Disney had no choice but to upgrade moderates and values in the move- their intention isn't to compensate people for the loss of their resort.

What bothers me about my move is they found a resort to move me to that they could justify keeping the cost of my CL plan. I would've much preferred being moved to another DVC property like OKW and being refunded my CL costs. I have seen a couple of moves from BC to FW and I would hope those were at least refunded a good portion of their costs. But it's take or leave it and for at least most of us, they aren't allowing any options.

Well we are holding out for either CBR or Jambo with all of AKL open. Boardwalk is a consideration. I think I’d even do pop if skyliner was working. Not happy with the thought of resorts they are giving people.
