Resort change and ticket question

We are staying 4 nights at POP on a package with tickets and then switching to SSR, where we do not currently have tickets. The POP package seems to allow us to choose a longer ticket length. Would we be able to add extra days to the POP tickets and still use them while at SSR.

Have never done a split stay before, so this is new territory.

Yup. Ticket length is not tied to length of resort stay. You can have a package for 2 nights at a resort and have tickets for up to 10 days.

Thanks, how would that work with the Magic Bands?
Tickets are tied to your MDE account. All of the active MagicBands in your MDE account will work as your tickets for your entire length of stay. You can use both the MB's from Pop or the MB's from SSR interchangeably, assuming you requested two sets of bands. You can just request one set and it will work for both resorts.

Not sure what you're asking exactly but I'll try to explain. When you have a split stay you will have the option of getting a set of Magic Bands for each resort or declining the set for resort #2. Either way, each Magic Band will be able to be used for your entire trip. Think of Magic Bands like debit cards and your My Disney Experience account like a bank account. Your entitlements (resort room, tickets, dining credits, etc) linked to your account are like $$. Any Magic Band that is active on your account can access you entitlements, just like any active debit card can access $$ in your bank account. My wife currently has 6 Magic Bands, all different colors, active on our account and she brings them all every trip. Which Magic Band she uses depends on what she' wearing that day.

The magic band is just a link to your My Disney Experience (MDE) account.

Your tickets, resort reservations, dining credits, etc, are tied to your MDE account. All the band does is provide a link to the account, via a code that's stored on the band. When a guest scans their band at a park gate, the park's entry system says "Ah, this band is linked to the account of John Doe. Let's see, that account does have valid tickets for this park. OK, let 'em in."

So, to answer your question, if you get two magic bands for your split stay, you can wear either one of them, and you'll have access to your tickets. One isn't 'for' your Pop stay, and the other isn't 'for' your SSR stay. They both contain the same information - the code that ties them to the MDE account, where your tickets live.

I like your debit card analogy. :)

Thanks all, very clear explanations.

Follow up - If we did the meal plan at POP those entitlements would end on the last POP day, correct?
