I’m taking my mother to WDW this December for MVMCP and all the other Christmas things. This is our first time visiting during the Christmas season so I splurged and booked club level at the Grand Floridian for our stay. This will also be our first time staying at GF. Now with the construction and lack of gingerbread house I am having regrets about my resort choice. Will GF still seem Christmasy without the gingerbread house? Is there another resort with more Christmas spirit that I should look into?

The Lobby construction is scheduled to be completed in November. The lack of a gingerbread house could be a blessing in disguise because it can generate a very crowded lobby and overused transportation system. I’ve heard that Wilderness Lodge is very nicely decorated at Christmas time.

They’ll still have a tree, probably some lights or decorations around the lobby & outside areas. The lounge area may have decorations too. Wilderness Lodge has outdoorsy, nature type decorations. A lot of people think it’s the best decorations, but that’s absolutely not my taste, so I have no interest in those type of decorations. All the resorts have themed trees in their lobbies, most of the other deluxe resorts have some type of gingerbread displays. BC has a gingerbread carousel, YC has a winter village/ train display that I love. BWI has a gingerbread boardwalk display. Their decorations are traditional glass ornaments which I think are beautiful.

Personally, I think staying at RPC in itself will be a wonderful treat. A big part of a December trip for us is checking out the other resort decorations. Just FYI, there were a lot of complaints last year that GF lobby was very crowded & the monorail & bus lines were long because so many people were there looking at the GB house. I know nothing else has been announced, but I’m sure Disney will still make the resort beautiful & festive for the season. This might actually be the perfect year to stay there.

Also, I always pack a few small Christmas decorations for our room to make our December trips special. And keep the Christmas spirit going even in the room.

Wilderness Lodge is super popular at Christmas time for its decor. You have boat service to MK. There’s also club level but I don’t personally see the value in club level if you’re doing a lot park time.
Thank you, we’re definitely planning to visit Wilderness Lodge to see the tree and decorations. We’re only going to the parks for MVMCP one night. The rest of the time is for looking at the resorts, so that’s why I chose club level for this trip.

Thanks for the info. I’m glad to hear the lobby will be finished before our trip! We’re definitely planning to go look at the Wilderness Lodge decorations :)

Thank you for all the details! I didn’t know that other resorts did gingerbread displays too! We’re going to visit Wilderness Lodge for sure, but outdoorsy is not my vibe so I didn’t really want to stay there. We’re very excited about RPC and having lots of resort time. And you may be on to something about the crowds with the gingerbread house, maybe a blessing in disguise :)

Hi I hope the GF construction is completed in time for your stay.
I am trying to convince another poster to keep her Polynesian Reservation for November trip and NOT stay at Copper Creek instead.
I owned DVC at Wilderness Lodge when it opened because the BoardWalk was not available or that is what they told me . I eventually sold those points and purchased BayLakeTower connected to the Contemporary.
I wanted to be able to walk to the MK because every trip first & last day was to the MK … and I knew someday, I might just be in a wheelchair looking out the window of the MK …
The Wilderness Lodge bus & boat and lobby is extremely congested during the holidays and will be worse with no Gingerbread Tree at the Grand Floridian this year.
The monorail for transportation is going to be busy but at least you are protected from weather & Have 3 deluxe resorts to visit by monorail for decorations and dining choices plus fireworks view , nightly Electrical Water Pageant view and monorail to Epcot Resorts and boat to Wilderness .
If you know your GF Resort location is concierge and guaranteed to be in the main building , You should keep that reservation.
Otherwise I would consider booking concierge at the Contemporary because it is one main building.
The Polynesianis a favorite to visit but not to stay because it has way too many buildings with no guarantee of location and access to main lobby.

If you want a beautiful brand new resort , you should consider a Concierge Club level at the new Helios Resort for the new EPIC Theme Park.
I just stayed there Grand Open Day and was upgraded concierge to theme park view!
I swear it is more beautiful than the Bellagio Fountains viewing in Las Vegas !
If you need a break and can spare one night away from WDW … take a taxi for just one night at this resort!!!
I guarantee that is the memory your mother will treasure and you also for forever.
I also , always visited with my mother and eventually used a wheelchair for her at Disneyland & DisneyWorld … I still walk down Main Street with my mother every time and treasure my memories with her .
