Reserving site..and not occupying it?

So what if they don't go in the parks. They can do what is within the limits of the law with that site. There are people that camp all winter and all summer, should we kick them out because they are using up "too much" of the Fort?

Whoa...I don't have an issue with them not going to the parks..that's exactly my point. They use the resort for the great amenities it offers. ;) Where as most folks in a value resort (from many of the posts I've read) feel they don't want to pay alot for a place where they only sleep. Meaning they're not choosing it for it's amenities. Where as the folks who want a site in FW often are visiting to enjoy the resort itself. Seems a shame, is all I'm saying if they aren't able to do so, because someone who isn't staying on property anywhere wants an extra magic hour.
Of course anyone can do whatever they want if it's within the law. I'm merely commenting that I would feel badly for those who had to miss out on a vacation because someone wanted an extra hour of "magic" and never set forth so much as a foot into the campground.

again for those pro-squaters out there.........please squat at the All Stars or Pop century and leave us trailer trash alone.....:lmao:

BTW does anyone have first hand knowledge of someone doing this at the Fort? A lot of the references here were for other camp grounds where someone paid for an extra day to stay 6 hours -- not exactly the same thing as paying and NEVER occupying a site. Just curious.

I can only comment as to the posts I've seen on the resort board, and the discount/code board, where people have inquired as to what the rates or discounts are so that they can reserve a site. I do believe I've read here on the camping board several times, that FW was supposed to be "booked" and yet campers saw many empty sites. It's likely this might be what is going on in those instances.

I wouldn't feel badly for those people. They need to get their ressies in earlier.

I agree with Gatordad:eek: . People should be able to do whatever they like within the limits of the law with a site they rent. I don't like it but, I don't like people that drive slower than the speed limit in the left lane or people that pull up to the drivethru window and act like the've never been to Mcdonalds before ( big Mac, 1/4pounder, Filet O Fish, it's not a new Menu everyday people, excluding the occasional Mcribb etc. ). My point is that lots of people do lots of things that I don't like and thats just the way things are. I'm sure I do plenty of stuff that others don't like and if I don't, I promise to try harder:lmao: . Eventually, the price of some of the Value resorts will make it into some Magazines and people will do it there too:idea: .

Don't think you could do it at the last minute, but if you reserve an extra day, then get packed up and pull out at say 7 - 8 pm that night, don't see what the problem is.

I don't do that at WDW. What I do, is do most of my packing the night before, then the next morning move the camper out to overflow. I still spend the majority of the day AT WDW and usually have one last dinner at Trails End, and then sometime between 7 and 9 pm start driving North to somewhere around Ocala (although I may go all the way up to Valdosta this next trip), and do a quick overnighter, then finish the drive the next day.

At most local parks I weekend camp at, a lot of them have 5pm Sunday checkout because VERY few folks arrive on Sunday afternoon

I think this is why you will so often hear about how CRO said that FW was booked solid but when you actually go, there are empty sites scattered throughout the loops, people have booked them to get free parking and EMH and maybe a dining package (not the free one) but stay at a home offsite for very little money.
And remember, if they have a large party, they can still fit into a 4 bdrm house offsite and then book a campsite with the dining package for up to 10 people and then get parking passes for multiple cars for the free parking, they can't do this at a value resort without getting 2+ rooms.

JMHO

We go out to Fort Wilderness often and I always see sites open. We usually go out on the weekends and I have been told by Disney that they limit the number of sites they will allow people to reserve for just weekends. They will show that there is no availability if you put in a Friday night and Saturday night, but if you go back and put in Friday through the following Thursday, it will be available. They are trying to keep sites open for those who want to book entire weeks instead of just two weekend days. This makes sense to me, but is very frustrating when I am trying to book a quick get away weekend.

I never thought it was because people were reserving the spots and not using them.

Hey - not all Florida Residents are bad!! I have paid plenty of money to Fort Wilderness and enjoyed every bit of what the resort has to offer. I do not think I have abused the system, but after going so many times, we know a few tricks that help us maximize on what Disney has to offer.

It's a shame the FW people can't find a way to book these folks in say, the 3000 loop. :lmao:

Then no one's campsite availability would be impacted, and Disney would know just who these people are and could give them all dining reservations after 10PM!

If they actually came back into the registration office and said "hey, I can't find my campsite," then they could get a real site number!

Sue in Texas
...who's had some quite magical times at Extra Magic Hours... :wizard:

:rotfl2: What a good idea!

Everyone hates to see a site going unused but ultimately, they paid for it and are using it as they wish. Hope someone like that is next to me next week...lots of room to stretch out!

And to think I wasnt interested in this thread at first....loops 1500 and 2000 are cheaper than value resorts and Im sure when they reserve,,,those are the loops they are reserving.

The NICE thing to do by these site wasters is to come on boards like this one and offer the unoccupied paid for site to someone who may be interested in a free site without all the beneifits!!! I'd be glad to take a free site off of their hands!!!

Yep..that's me.."interesting" l:cutie:
Oh..you're good..I'll give ya that. You were able to turn that right around. ;)

In any case, I do like your idea about offering a free site to someone..I doubt it would ever happen but it would be nice.
