What happens if we make reservations fir party of six but only five vome?
Do they apply some kind of charge?

At any of the restaurants with the credit card guarantee, as long as at least one person shows up for the reservation you will not be charged.

I think they would refund your money for a prepaid meal for that person, it would never hurt to ask.

DS ended up sick and we had to stay in the room. We had booked and paid for Sleigh Ride. They refunded our money for the Sleigh Ride when we explained why we couldn't make it. We also had to cancel Trails End Buffet but it is not a CC reservation.

In the same trip DD and I had a reservation for Garden View Tea for 4 but only 2 of us were able to show up because DS was still sick and it was not a problem.

I think it will be ok from my experience and there was not a charge.

We have had several occasions with only 3 showing up on a reservation for 4 at the credit-card-hold character buffet restaurants like Crystal Palace. We were not charged the $10 for the 4th person not showing up.

However, last time we ate at Cinderella's Castle, the group in front of us at check in were asking for a refund for 2 in their group that had not made it due to airplane connections (storms cancelled 100s of flights) The check-in person had them step aside to wait for a manager so they did not immediately get a no-refund message. Disney must at least consider whether or not to give credits. Don't know how that particular case resolved, because we were called back for pictures before the manager showed up, but sounds like there is at least a chance they will refund on the pre-paid if it's a real reason for cancelling (the cancelled flights story was certainly plausible since it was all over the national news at the time.)

Only at those that are required to be prepaid in full (CRT, dinner shows, some of the special dining events)
