I have reservations at AKV in June for my whole family (2 bedroom and a studio). I'll be purchasing park hoppers for everyone except my wife and me. We're getting annual passes since we'll be back in October for a conference.

My question is do you have to have the tickets purchased before you can get the magic bands and make fast pass plus selections? The problem is that I understand that to get the DVC discount on an annual pass you have to do this at the park. If you have to have your passes before you can make FP+ reservations, then I can make those reservations for everyone except my wife and me.

I'm usually the Disney guru in my family, but I'm lost on Magic Bands and FP+.

Actual MBs have nothing to do with park admission. All you do is customize them when thats available and they will be sent when disney says its time. Mbs can be used as door openers ad to charge, even without admission linked.

But making FP+ arrangements requires valid admission on the days for which you are making the arrangements.

Unless something has changed you can call MS or just go through the perks or discounts area on dvcmember.com to order your DVC APs. Then use the will call confirmation number in mydisneyexperience to link the APs and make fp+ possible. The rest of your party will need tickets on mydisneyexperience to get FP+ for them.

I purchased DVC PAPs online last year and about 2 months ago, I linked the will-call confirmation number to my MDE account. I was able to make FP+ selections after doing so. (I had previously linked by DVC reservation to MDE also, since at this point, only on site guests are able to make FP+ selections ahead of time).

When we arrived on 11/30/2013, we went to Guest Relations to activate the PAPs and after that, there were no issues entering the parks with our MBs or using the FP+ selections I made previously.

I also purchased online and had will call numbers. It took 1.5 hours to convert the will call numbers to tickets and link them to our bands. If I do this again, I would definitely fly down the night before to convert the will call numbers to tickets.

We had will call numbers for our PAP. We went to DHS and was standing in line at Guest Relations and a CM came over and asked what we needed to do and explained that the CM's at the ticket kiosks could help us. It took 10 minutes, they made sure our MB (all three sets for our split stay) were active. We did not have any problems with MBs and FP+.

We did notice that when we changed a FP+ time that sometimes the old time stayed on My Plans. But if we exited DMX and came back in the ghost FP+ disappeared and only the new time was showing.

We stayed at three resorts AoA, BLT, and AKV Jambo and had no problems with our bands and visited park(s) each day. It did take me awhile to realize I only needed to tap it against the Mickey icon polls to make it work.
