I'm working with a member who has been very helpful in making a reservation in my name for a stay at the Beach Club Villas. Here are the terms we're working under, please let me know if these are standard practice:

1) I did call member services and was able to confirm the reservation
2) The member is going to send me a copy of the reservation and an agreement then I will pay him a 25% deposit via personal check
3) The remainder of the fee is to be paid 60 days prior to the beginning of my stay

Is there any protection against the reservation being cancelled once I've paid in full?

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks.

No, the ressie could be cancelled but as Doc as frequently noted, there has been honesty usually between renter and rentee. The most recent post to the contrary had content that referred to a potential rentee "getting a better deal" from a different DVC member other than the original contact but that's not exactly the same as cancelling an established ressie and pocketing the money; more an annoyance.

I have rented points to people under very similar terms to the ones you alluded to and I think they seem reasonable. The 60 days allows time for your personal check to clear the bank and yet should you cancel, it would have to be 30 days prior to check-in date, as that then commits those points to a so called "holding" account, whereby the member is limited to use them to book a ressie 60 days out. In other words, their use becomes very limited, especially as the member's use year end draws near, as those points can no longer be banked to the next year. You use them or lose them.

The only other thing you can consider is to ask the DVC member if they have rented points before and if so, ask to contact for a referral.

I think those terms sound very fair; some have posted here that they want the entire amount up front and that certainly is their perogative.

You have rented under very fair terms. I usually as for 50% up front.

There is always the possibility you could get taken so I would ask for some kind of reference. Talk on the phone with the renter. You can tell a good bit about someone by talking to them. 99.9% of DVC owners are great people. Every now and then we wind up with some extra points due to unforseen circumstances and we are just trying to recoup some of our cost (maint fees run around $4 per point per year).

If you are really uncomfortable, call and check on your ressie about 75 days out, or even every 30 days if you want. There is almost as much risk for the renter as the rentee once you get close to the ressie due to the 30 day holding account rule and also that fact that the renter may have to discount the points if the rentee cancels and the points are expiring soon.

Relac and have a great time. Disney is the most wonderful place on earth.

I know who it is you're renting from just from reading the terms, and from some earlier posts you made. I believe you're in very good hands.

Sounds like a sound agreement...I've rented points from DVC members and I have rented my points to Non DVC members...I have had positive experiences on each side...I high recommend it as the way to go to my Non DVC friends....:D

We are renting points fro a September trip. Before I rented, I searched for all the threads by the person I rented from to see how long they had been on the boards, what their posts were like, how many, if there were any negative comments to or about. I felt very confident of the integrity of the person I decided to rent from.

I am very satisfied with our deal and we are less than a month from our trip. :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc Our reservation is there waiting for us and we are paid in full (prior to the 60 day mark).

Good luck on whatever you decide to do!

There is a thread 6 places above that has a Rental Contract. Email and they will forward a copy to you.
