Reservation for 6....or 7

Made a reservation at Cape May in January for 6. Been looking for a reservation for 7 for several weeks, with no luck. I will keep trying over hte next few months, but what are the odds that we can show up with 7 for our reservation for 6 and be seated? Or do I leave the MIL at the hotel...

I'd say don't count on it. I don't how the larger tables are set in Cape May, but having a reservation for 3 and showing up with 4 people I could see being possible since they would most likely be seating 3 people at a 4 top table.

Have you thought about making 2 ADR's - one for three people and one for four? You may not be able to sit together, but at least that way everyone would have a guaranteed seat.

1) Disney is getting wise to the "but, they decided to join us" trick.
2) With free DDP, people can't always get the ADR they want.
3) So, they under-count to get a table.
4) Then, they show up with "unexpected" additional people.
5) In a team meeting, CM's have been told to warn guests against this.
6) If there is room, WDW will not turn away revenue.
7) But, if busy, they will turn away the additions.
8) Go ahead any arrive with the extras, if you like.
9) Just be prepared to have someone stand around while you eat

You have a high chance of 1 person being denied at the podium. Who that is in your party is up to you.

When you show up with more than planned they do try and accomidate, but I see more turned away than seated. Also it changes your adr to a walk up IF they do have an availability, meaning you then have up to a 2+ hour wait.

WDW follows strict capacity fire codes and will not have more people in their restaurant than allowed. So if they are booked that night, no others can get in.

If it were me, I would leave my MIL at home. She's the worst person in the world . Hopefully yours is better though

I think the answer to your question is 'maybe'. It's a gamble, but you can try it. Just try not to take it badly if they can't accommodate the extra person.

I would make 2 different ADR's for the same time period and when you check in ask if they can be combined. This way your covered and no one is turned away.
