Disneyland Halloween Half Marathon Weekend 2025 (September 4-7)

This shoe talk has me wondering what they might do for colorways for the next races. They seem to be aiming less for whatever the specific characters are or that year's artwork. Springtime Surprise got a nice blue that matches the logo on the website, DL Halloween has the black and dark purple that they often tie to the general villains theme.

- Wine and Dine: general logo is a wine grape, which could point to a wine colorway? In the future I wonder if they'll shift back to villains themes for this one
- MW: Logo is dark blue with the castle, weekend key art is also dark blue
- DL January: light blue logo with the DL D
- PW: logo is closer to red than purple, with a crown. Could go with any sort of color that's been associated with this weekend

Dark blue, with a slight shimmer, and the Castle in a Brooks Ghost...

I was in B with a POT of 2:19 which made me wonder if there were only 2 POT Corrals.
I was in D for the 10K and C for the half with a PoT (1:07 10K or something like that. just under the cutoff). I was expecting C because usually A-C are PoT corrals. To my knowledge PoT doesn’t affect the 10K even if doing the challenge. I wish they would just make it the same though.

I also know lots of people with no PoT who had higher corrals than me (or the same).

For most races, the only corral with no PoT should be the last one. If rD wanted to have only A-D need a PoT, cool, then everyone else is in E. You can't have people be true to their word, because they will keep taking advantage of the rules.

I think the problem with this for Disney is that so many runners who do rD races are new to running and don't have (or aren't capable of) a PoT. We know from the PoT math over the years that Disney has a slower paced field than most other large races, so it becomes a matter of crowd control. Even with the mini-waves and in-corral fencing we've seen introduced, if 75+% of your field is non-PoT it just isn't practical to have them all in the last corral.

And rD has proven they have no interest in (or resources for) expanding the PoT times even back to what they were pre-pandemic. (I had JUST gotten a 2:41 half when they bumped it back from 2:45 to 2:30, dammit!) I suspect AI could come into play for verifying times and flagging those that need a manual check, which COULD lead to an expansion, but I'm not sure I trust Disney IT with that process.

Looking at my photos, example of a 10k A corral person, she completed the run at 1:58 mins, and that does not surprise me after viewing my photo that she was in.

Disney races have never been used to qualify for the Olympics. They are all basically fun runs with many first timers. So if you expect to set a PR or break the world record you really need to go do another race. I get the frustration with people being fat and slow ahead of you and you question how they even got the corral position, but maybe have some grace and just enjoy the atmosphere, enjoy the run - you are not getting a sponsor if you happen to run fast.

And why does that not surprise you? Does someone's body type or appearance automatically mean they do or do not belong in coral A? I was in corral A and finished the 10k during marathon weekend in 2:28. Would you say I don't belong there either?

Yes, I would if you lied about stating your estimated time in the registration.

I would say that the five year old child who was walking with his influencer dad and had an A bib on probably doesn't have a <8 min running pace. Very much understand why his dad would give his whole family A bibs, it looked like they had a very nice time, not particularly thrilled that they were taking photos four across and walking, also a bit annoyed about being bumped back a corral and facing longer photo op lines (not to mention the aforementioned crowding that you've already heard too much about). It's selfish, I know. And no, this wasn't this guy's first time. His kid's first time, apparently, but dad knows how this works.

Like this seems like a silly conversation to have while tiptoeing around the extremely obvious benefits to getting into corral A that have nothing to do with the pace you're listing. You get out there first, you can be among the first in character lines, you have a lot more distance from the balloon ladies. Someone here mentioned getting cut off for part of the course, we know they also cut off access to some of the photo ops eventually. You avoid a lot of that if you start in A. I get it. And all you have to do is get there is make a certain selection when you're first registering.

At the same time, other people are motivated by these things too, but they don't make the same selection, and so they might get bumped back to start (you're seeing this manifest specifically for people who get in B for POT races but C or D when they're listing a pace that matches that POT). They have longer character lines. You see the benefits of the earlier start as you go through the course, and you see how it impacts your run. And I guess with that knowledge in mind you can decide how you want to proceed with future race registrations.

While this might be true to an extent, I think it is a little unfair. Some people like to run and enjoy the atmosphere...AND have a natural faster pace. It isn't fair to tell people who have a 6 min mile pace, that they should just slow down and enjoy the atmosphere.

I didn't mention it, but my husband got hurt during the half. He got tripped up by someone running ahead of him who was much slower at the start of the race. The ground was wet, and going around the person on the bridge, he fell and twisted his knee. He will be fine, (Although he can't run this week, which is killing him inside) He was still able to finish the race even though his time was slower and he was in a lot of pain. (He should have stopped, but he isn't that type of guy).

It honestly isn't safe to have people in corrals they shouldn't be in. And not just for the faster runners, it isn't safe for young kids or slower runners who might get hurt in front of others trying to go around them. Everyone deserves the right to run safely and at the time they want. Corrals make it safer and people should respect that.

I'm sorry, but be faster then, move to the elite corral if you feel this is where you think you will set the world record. Move to the front of the corral, get there early, stop blaming others. Have some dang sympathy for people who are struggling and maybe they want to actually finish one race in their damn life without being swept - so would I deny them this because I want to set some dang PR is a freaking Disney park! This may be the only race they ever do. This may be their best opportunity to actually finish and not get swept and go home sad, while you get to finish a couple of minutes early and celebrate your huge achievement at beating them. Come on. Honestly, have a little compassion and just stop. This world is screwed up enough, we don't need to shame people trying to better themselves.

I didn’t say anything at all like that. I’m talking about people who are in A and shouldn’t be. My post was about people lying about time. And I’m sorry, that’s not safe. My husband was there at 4 am. He was in his correct spot based on his POT. He was in A. I’m not sure why that makes him the bad person?

ETA: My husband is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. He has arthritis and recently suffered a massive open compound leg fracture which the doctors said would end his running. He worked his way back, metal rod in his leg and all. He is a huge cheerleader of all people and all runners. He stays after races and cheers on others. He volunteers at my son’s track meets and coaches kids. He cleans up trails after runs. He’s a physician who goes in to see patients on days he’s not on call. He lets patients come to our home if they are sick. He took care of both of this sisters and raised them after his mother lost custody while he was in medical school. He is extremely compassionate, so I take offense to asking him to be more compassionate. He did nothing wrong.

If you’re too slow to finish the race within the given pace requirements, then you should train to get to that ability instead of lying about it. The way to not get swept is to get better, not ruin everyone else’s run. Why should I have sympathy for someone who fabricates their running ability and then pushes to the front of a corral just to walk in front of people who actually took the time to train and want to run. Just because they want a participation trophy?

And the cold hard truth is body size is an important part of equation. The heaviest runner to ever win the Boston Marathon weighed 161 lbs—and he won the 1899 race, which had 15 runners.

well, then apparently all fat people are unwelcome. Copy. Instead of encouraging them we will shame them. And why should you have sympathy for someone - well, because I'd think you'd be a good person and wouldn't shame people over their weight or their ability. It's a freaking Disney race, where everyone is supposedly welcome, but I guess let's just turn runDisney into the Elite Runners club and be done with it. Anyone overweight need not even register, well, because they are probably lying about their ability anyway.

And you know what, instead of shaming people about their weight, ability, or whether they are liars, maybe you should act for a change to the corral system then. Contact runDisney and tell them to make elite corrals for you superior people and let the fatties sit in the back.
