Could someone please outline what happens to your points depending on the timeframe that you cancel a reservation in? Or point me to a thread that has it? I know I ran across it somewhere but now can't find it. Thanks! :flower3:

If you cancel a reservation for a DVC resort 31 or more days prior to check-in, all of the points used to make the reservation will be restored to your account.

If you cancel a reservation for a DVC resort between 30 and 1 days prior to check-in, all of the points used to make the reservation will be placed in the Holding Account. Holding account points may not be banked or borrowed, and will expire at the end of your current Use Year if they aren’t used.

If you cancel a reservation for a DVC resort on the check-in date, all of the points used to make the reservation will be forfeited.

There are different cancellation rules for the Disney Collection, World Passport Collection, Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection.

Also if the reservation was made with borrowed points they remain in the current use year and cannot be returned to the use year they were borrowed from. They must be used by the end of the current use year.

One question I had about borrowing/banking. What if you made a reservation and used current points and borrowed and then had to cancel. I understand that the borrowed will stay, but if you're within your banking window can you still bank the current UY points or once you borrow do the current UY points end up having to stay as well?

Can you borrow any of these points to use in a previous use year?

For example, our use year begins in Oct. We have a trip booked for Jan 2009 and had booked a 2 bed villa since extended family was going to be going with us. Now they can't make it and we only need a 1 bedroom. (we had to borrow points from our 2009 use year to make this ressie) Now we are thinking of taking a trip over the summer for a few days. Would we be able to borrow any of the points that we would get back when we re-book a 1 bedroom to use over the summer?

The points you borrowed from 2009 will remain in your 2008 use year. A summer 2008 trip would still be in your October 2007 use year, so you could not use them. If there were 2008 points in your January reservation, you could ask them to free those up if you change your reservation from a 2 bedroom to a 1 bedroom and then you could borrow those for summer 2007.

Any points in holding account can only be used for reservations within 60 days of arrival. Depending on a variety of factors like where you are in your use year, how much flexibility you have, when you want to visit, etc, that may be a significant restriction...or it may be no big deal.
