Resell - Can you do a private sale?

Question from a newbie -
Is it possible to do a DVC contract resale without purchasing through Disney, GMAC, Timeshare, etc...? Anybody out there ever do a resale privately between two parties?

If so, what steps did you have to go through to make it happen.

Sure, private purchases may be done.

The usual reason for a privale sale is that both the buyer and seller can get a better price.

For the seller, this would save any commission that would otherwise go to the broker. For the buyer, the selling price could be reduced since the seller pays no commission.

HOWEVER, with DVC resales the price is basically controlled by Disney thru their Right-of-First-Refusal where they have the opportunity to purchase the resale at the same terms already agreed upon by the buyer and seller. Thus, if the price is "too good" the buyer will end up with nothing and the seller will get the same amount.

I can see little benefit for a buyer to go thru a private resale since they are unlikely to get a better price than what would be available thru a resale broker. Only the seller really benefits from the private sale.

Remember that you still have to go through the whole ROFR and closing process, so you can't completely do it yourself (unless you happen to be an expert on these sorts of things).

I know TSS has a closing-only package. I assume the other big DVC resellers do as well.
