Well, we're cancelling our vacation that should have begun tomorrow afternoon because one of my DD's broke her arm last evening. :( It was to be a mainly swimming vacation (2 days OKW/4 Vero) and the vote was unanimous--let's go when we can ALL enjoy it! (Thank goodness for siblings who get along!) Worse things could've happened, and we're gonna make lemonade out of these lemons!!

We're throwing around the idea of a long weekend (Thurs-Mon) at HH in December or January. Any ideas? Weather advice? I'd love all suggestions....my DH isn't as excited about this possibility as I am, so I'd like to really convince him. Then we could still do a FL vacation in May. :D

How do you get from the Hilton Head airport to the Hilton Head resort?

imgoingtodisney, we always drive. I'm sorry I can't help you with directions. :(

the directions are in the new member book - I will tell you tomorrow if someone else doesn't

The weather can be cold during Dec. & Jan. The pools are heated and you might get lucky with a warm spell. There are always activities at the resort and a lot to do on the Island. You can explore the Island on bikes, golf, tennis, shop, shelling at the beach, eat, or just relax.

Have fun.

Sorry you had to cancel. Don't forget now that those reservation points you were going to use will now have special restrictions on their use since you cancelled at the last minute.

As to HH, there's really only one main road that runs right down the middle of the island. From the HH airport you would simply go to the main highway, turn left, and Disney is down on your right. (I don't have a map so I can't give you any real specifics). Just remember that the signage at HHI is very restricted so you have to keep an eye out for your turns.

As mentioned, weather can be very unpredictable. We've been there both in November and January. You may get anything from freezing weather, to a nice day. Also, don't forget that at that time of year the sun will be setting earlier, so your 'day' will be shorter. The temperature can tend to drop once the sun goes down.

I just wanted to add that the heated pool is 80 degrees (not bathwater). If you stay submerged up to your neck and keep moving, you might be OK. Just know that the folks sitting in the lounge chairs might need very warm coats!

Have you checked the point charts for HH Friday and Saturday? They really burn points.

We've been to HHI 3 times (Disney resort once) and really like the beach.

The reason we're thinking about a long weekend HH trip in Dec/Jan is because it's about 4 hours closer for us so it'd be easier to make it a shorter vacation. Also, that's the lowest point time for HH--the weekend points aren't that bad at that time of year. That being said, I also realize it's at a cooler time of year, but I bet it's still warmer than here in northern Ohio! :D Just to be able to get away and see the ocean--I'm sure it'd be nice!! Still planning, though.....

I looked at the point charts and the weekend isn't so bad. It will give you a chance to see the place. Perhaps you could call and ask them if they do any of the family activities at that time. The Pirate Treasure Hunt and the Magic Show were big hits with my family. B. Lou Crabbe who did the activities is very talented.

I have never been there but I am researching for my trip next May. Hiton Head Island is about 12 miles long so it should not be too hard to find DVC from there. I found a website that gives some information: http://www.hiltonheadairport.com.

For airport locations try http://www.landings.com
you can find almost any airport that has a website from this site.
Often with maps to locate them in an area for you.
