Requesting certain room?

I'm just curious as to whether anyone has requested a particular room # and actually gotten that room. I've done it (requested a certain room #) 3 times, and I'm 0 for 3 on getting the room. I've got a theory that it p*****ses off the room assigner, at least when I make the request, and they always put me in a room far from where I requested. I just laugh to myself and figure "Oh, well!" I know a request is just a request. But I'm curious-has anyone been successful?

Original room assignments are now done by an automated computer process. If I understand correctly, there really isn't a room assigner with a role like in the past. So I don't think there is anyone to make mad, and even if there was, no I don't think that's why you didn't get your request.

Everyone cannot get their requests. You've just had bad luck.

You can ask at check-in and remind the CM at the desk of your requests and see if they have been met. As to whether you can request a different room at that time, ????. I have in the past, but it seems like they are trying to crack down more on DVC members (especially) being moved at check-in due to room requests (vs. a problem in the original room assigned).

My family has repeatedly gotten our requests when we make them - DVC or regular Disney rooms. In fact, on our 2nd Beach Club Villas stay, I mentioned at check-in how much we liked the room location we had had previously and they were able to give us the same room. But that was done by the CM at check-in. I don't do online check-in, but I do add requests to my DVC reservation if I have one.

PS - just read your post a little more closely and (despite the one experience I wrote about above), I would NEVER request a particular room #. The chances of being able to get a particular room are infinitesimally small. That is more likely why you have not been successful. You need to request the things you want in your room -not a particular room - so things like near parking, near lobby, near elevators, whatever. Those types of requests have a higher chance of happening. Don't request room numbers because if that room is not available, they will just stick you wherever.

i've gotten a couple of great villas - a lakeview BLT studio with a partial castle view and a value studio with a savanna view...but only when i didn't request anything.

the couple of times i've made requests, i didn't get them.

YMMV.

I've always asked for *what* I want (i.e. "a quiet water view") rather than specific room number(s). That way, if the specific room isn't available, the person (or thing) assigning rooms has some idea of what a good alternative would be.

Requesting a specific room is like searching for a needle in a haystack. Room assignments are dependant on how the inventory rolls. If the room you requested opens up on a Thursday, chances are it won't be held until your arrive on Saturday. Unless (BIG MAYBE HERE) it is terribly slow time of year and there are several rooms available in that category. It doesn't hurt to ask at check-in if that room (or floor) is available. We reserved a 1-BR lakeview and requested a higher floor. When we arrived at check-in, we found that we had been assigned a room on the second floor. We asked if there was anything on a higher floor. The CM checked the available inventory and got us a room on the 7th floor. No problem, just an extra minute or two at the check-in desk.

We've made room requests, but not specific numbers. We've done things like ask for a room close to the elevators or the lobby and such, and so far they have tried to accomodate us as much as possible. It's easier when you check in early in the day (we've checked in in the late mornings). From what it seems, they give you a room that they might have ready if possible so you don't have to wait too long to get in, and if I don't like the room location, then I ask if there is any way to switch to a room closer to our request, that we don't mind waiting. They make a call into housekeeping and try to set it up. It hasn't been a problem, and we've always been really nice about it. If they can't, then they can't. But most times we've been lucky, but then again we do go during low season!
