Afternoon All...

We are heading down to Fort Wilderness in 30 days or so (Me, Wife, Daughter 15, Son 7, Daughter 5) and I've heard rumors about the ability to request a particular cabin / loop. If that is true then I have 2 questions...

1. Assuming all cabins / loops available, what would be your pick and why

2. How does one go about requesting a cabin / loop?

Thanks for any assistance.

Dave,

You can make a request (not a guarantee) for a particular loop and the Fort will try to honor your request if possible. You can boil your request down to a few specific words and then have it added as a comment to your reservations. In the old days people use to fax in a letter but I've had just as much success with the ressie note.

Refer to the FW map http://www.wdwinfo.com/maps/FWMap.pdf .

Some folks (like me) like to stay near the front of a loop to shorten the walk from the cabin to the internal bus stop which usually has one shared between every 2-3 loops along the primary road. If you are driving to the parks then the distance doesn't matter (we drive to all except MK where we bus down to the Fort marina then take the boat). Example 2100 and 2200 loops.

Some folks (like me) like to stay in a loop near the main Fort pool and Trading Post area so shorten the walk over there (we bike too). Of course you can bus it but it's a pleasant walk. Example 2100 and 2200 loops.

Some folks want to stay on the back side of a loop away from a primary road to enhance the sense of peace and quiet. Maybe you want to sit out on the deck with a cup of coffee in the morning and enjoy nature. Example back of 2800.

Some folks want to be able to walk to the quiet pool there in the cabin area. Example entrance area of 2500 and 2600.

Specific cabins are hard to get and there is no real valid reason to request a specific one. They're all the same. But say "near a bus stop" or "in the back" or "near the cabin pool" or "front of loop 2200" - they all work. Or go with pot luck.

Enjoy your visit!

PS - the attached map is a little outdated. I think the orange line runs up through the cabin loops (2100-2800) so cabin folks can ride to the pool/TP/campfire area.

This will be our first Ft. trip and we are in a cabin. I just called and they said "they'd note the request but nothing is guaranteed" guess its the old get what you get and dont get upset rule! Heres to hoping...we leave Monday...

Well that's the standard response to a request. I hope you get what you asked for. A little pixie dust might help.
