We are working with DU for planning our first cruise in May 2005. Can you request a certain cabin when working with a TA or do you get what you get?? We were suppose to travel with my in-laws, but now it's just us, so I'm thinking we can get something better since we don't have to worry about having two cabins together.

Any thoughts?

You can definately request a specific cabin and get it as long as it it still available. Your TA should be able to tell you what is currently available or not on a specific sail date.

I booked a June 2005 cruise a few weeks ago with DU and was able to request and receive one of the secret porthole rooms. Good luck!

If a specific cabin has the capacity to hold your party and it is still available, then it can be assigned to you.

If it's available, DU can get it for you. Our TA got the four rooms we asked for near each other. Now if the date would just get here! ;)

We were going to go with a cat 9 for the porthole, but now I'm wondering if we can request one of those "secret" porthole rooms and save a little money.

What would be considered the best of the "secret" porthole rooms? 2nd? 3rd?

5020 and 5520 each hold 4 passengers. They have the least obstructed views of the SPR rooms. They do not have a connecting door to another stateroom. Unfortunately, they don't have the "steamer trunks," so they have less storage than those rooms that do.

5022 and 5024 have connecting doors between them, and they hold up to 4 passengers each. So this is a great arrangement for families of 5 to 8 people -- or even for families of 4 who would like twice as much room and twice as many bathrooms. 5024 has the most obstructed view. As with hotel rooms with connecting doors, the connecting door can be locked from both sides, and each room can be booked separately -- but you can get more noise from the other room through the door than through a solid wall. As far as know, 5022 and 5024 have the "steamer trunks."

What I wrote about 5022 and 5024 also applies to 5522 and 5524 (with 5524 having the most obstructed view on that side).

As far as the "502x" (port) or the "552x" (starboard) side, I don't think it makes any real difference.

Hi Tera, chucklechops here from a very snowy U.K.
our path's cross again.
Yes you can request cabins and as you know we have just booked and got a spc 5522.
I think 5020,5520 are the best of the bunch and go mega fast, looking at the pictures on castaway club website showed us that 5522 and I cant remember the other one were the other better views, leaving 5524 quite obscured by life boat barrels.
I think the other benefits are if you were orginally going for a cat 11 cabin are that you have more cabin space as well as a split bathroom.
also the location seems really good and from reading these websites there is very little corridor traffic.
I'd say Go for it, it worked out if im right $60 more than a cat 11 cabin .
Good luck and keep us posted

Thanks Horace for the breakdown of the rooms. That helps knowing which room is which.

Chucklechops!!!! Great to hear from you again and thanks for the information. Definitely need the split bathroom with two DD's

Thanks for the link. I like that room. Not much of a obstruction in that particiluar room
